Of course the vast majority of courier firms are a shambles, they're only there because the Tories believed that the opening up of every public service, including the Royal Mail, to competition would lead to better service.
Actually, when I say "believe" what I mean is they knew full well it wouldn't improve anything, but it would certainly give some of their backers and benefactors an easy inroad into a deregulated and very profitable sector. See, also, energy, water, probation services, NHS, roads maintenance and thousands of other such services all sacrificed in the name of greed. |
Interesting food for thought |
Or misty eyed nonsense......life was not all roses and wonderful service when everything was under government control |
You believe what you want to believe, same as I do. I do know though, that everything the Tories promised to privatise, and did, has gone tits up in terms of service delivery. It's worked beautifully for the shareholders though. Misty eyed nonsense? Naaah... |
On the other hand you seem to be forgetting the "happy days" of endless service disruptions because of strikes driven by the egos of certain union leaders. In addition most of us benefit because pretty much most pension funds invest in these companies as well. Anyway you are free to believe what you do and we can agree to differ but i agree with SE20blue lets leave political views and commentary out of this football forum. |

Why does anyone have to pollute a football programme forum will political views ? |
I'm guessing it's because the Royal Mail is being discussed, and level of service pre and post privatisation? _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/footballprogrammes/albums |

I think he meant who would bring up the topic anyway, and why have some folk jumped in with socialist ideas about nationalisation
Each to his own in political opinions but not everybody wants somebody else's politics shoved down their throat.I personally have a pet hate, which i never mention, but i will as it has the same nothing to do with football programmes even if it has something to do with football. The 24 hour drinking rule that came in relatively recently is my pet hate. Was that done as a public service or to feather the profit nests of breweries.I hate it as it helps people who can't help themselves binge drinking, especially in places like Scotland, where some folk can't help themselves getting pished before a game |

Except, the political point was directly relevant to what is being discussed on this thread as I pointed out, whilst getting pished before a game isn't.
Like it or not, the Royal Mail and it's performance has a direct impact on our hobby. 24 drinking probably hasn't. _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/footballprogrammes/albums |

It's still totally irrelevant, and the talk was not about the Royal Mail but also everything that was nationalised from trains through to power
If you don't like the Royal mail and you don't like private couriers find an alternative. That's my final say on it |

It's clearly not "totally irrelevant" and as with any forum, avoid a topic if you don't like it. _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/footballprogrammes/albums |

The only thing relevant to our hobby and Royal Mail was the cost and performance before and after privatisation. |

Just going back to my original post
"In praise of the Royal Mail" Can I please reiterate again that this is MY praise for a company who took ONE day to deal with my online complaint regarding an item being lost.
I was very happy how they financially compensated me very quickly.
This was clearly not a political statement.
However, I was led to believe that ANY views were welcome in the "Anything Goes Chit Chat" section.
After reading all the comments, do I still like the Royal Mail?...Yes.
Have they ever let me down?...Again Yes!
Life goes on |
