Some very interesting footage uploaded to the EAFA covering the opening of the floodlights at Portman Road.

Just says "1960" so I'm not sure if it's 59/60 or 60/61 season.

derby,, on the subject of lpswich l think this is an early image of a match at Portman Road before the ground was built? The game is Leiston v HMS Ganges 1910. But l might be wrong!

I think this is a view of the south side of the ground before it was developed . If it’s correct,, Wikipedia states : ‘ ln 1901 a tobacco processing plant was built along the south edge of the ground by the Churchman brothers’ . I think that the factory , warehouse and chimney in the pic are this plant. The first permanent stand was built on the Portman Rd side of the ground in 1906. Obviously we can’t see that in this image. Although HMS Ganges had a home pitch at their naval training base, this match against Leiston was probably played at a neutral venue,, Portman Road. Perhaps Leiston played some matches at Portman Rd? Looks like the ground was also used for cricket.. As l said, l could be wrong on all of this. I will try and put up a clearer image of the photo if anyone is interested.
