Many years ago (20+) I purchased book written by a Hartlepool fan about this match, along with a reprint programme. Also what I thought at the time was an original programme VIP/ Directors copy which had no number on the Team page. Some years later there was mention about another fake programme, could that be the one. Unfortunately I no longer have the items but im curious to know, if the item I had was in fact fake. |

I believe a reprint was issued in the 1987/88 Hartlepool v Luton Town FA Cup 3 programme. The reprint programme number on the team page was - 2787 |

You mentioned there was another reprint or a reprint, he has just advised you that there was one with a number, this is the ONLY reprint that was produced. Perhaps you let go an original?. All the programmes that were SOLD on the day had a number printed inside for a lucky raffle draw. _________________ To see 20,00++ original items relating to Newton Heath & Manchester Utd 1878-2023 then visit www.flickr.com/photos/manchesterunitedman1/sets to see entire uploads.

The programme I had definitely had no number so if it wasn't a reprint im guessing it was a directors VIP copy? |

The press were handed out programmes that were numbered, so perhaps or perhaps not-either way it is academic now and it has gone, does it still matter? _________________ To see 20,00++ original items relating to Newton Heath & Manchester Utd 1878-2023 then visit www.flickr.com/photos/manchesterunitedman1/sets to see entire uploads.

Quite a few years ago I purchased the collection of a man who had collected in the 1950's as a child. The collection lay dormant for many decades.
A copy of this programme was included without a raffle number. I did some research at the time and the best i could come up with was possibly a director's copy etc. He couldn't recall but his collection was for games he attended , swopped with British collectors via Soccer Star and from writing to clubs.
My recollection is the programme was glossy as opposed to normal matt issues.
It was a mystery to most at the time. An experienced Manchester United collector here was happy to take it.
Hope this helps |

There were programmes produced for the 1956/57 Hartlepools v Manchester United FA Cup match without a programme number. I had one of these myself which I bought in 1980. I believe that these will have been directors / special guests copies and may well have also been used for supporters postal requests for programmes after the match.
The reprint discussed earlier which was reproduced and inserted in the 1987/88 Hartlepool v Luton Town FA Cup match programme is easily identifiable as it appears glossy with a deeper blue print with the programme number 2787 printed inside. On the reprint cover you can also see two breaks in the surrounding border on either side of the match date and programme price line (Saturday, 5th January, 1957. One Penny), and the printers name at the very bottom appears a little smudged.
I have heard reports that the programme issued without a programme number has appeared over the years in both a matt and glossy variation.
I have uploaded scans of the programmes issued without a programme number and also the reprint with the 2787 programme number
A well known established dealer recently sold the reprint without listing it as such on Ebay. The dealer was made aware on the first day that it was listed that the copy he was selling was a reprint and it had the 2787 programme number. |
