United Reserves v Preston Reserves 28th August, programme Number 1- but 6 days later War is declared on those Bastard Nazi's-season over reserve wise. Check out the ad on the cover and the prices in 1939 for a season ticket 3 guineas of 3 pounds and fifteen pence!

I wonder if the supporters got their money back if they needed it, or some alternative arrangements were made whilst they played at Maine Road.
How many supporters paid and had to go into the Armed forces and of course never returned?-Bastard Nazis.
100's of new uploads in this last month, to view it all visit www.flickr.com/photos/manchesterunitedman1/ or to see the near 8000 images uploaded all at one time in over 300 catergories then it is www.flickr.com/photos/manchesterunitedman1/sets now viewing firgures are just under 1.1 million. Just click on any image to download for free.
I will come back soon with a look at the first team who played 3 matches one at home to Grimsby and away to Chelsea and Charlton.
When football resumed league wize in 1946-7 the same fixtures were used that would have been played in 1939-40!

What was the difference between a "reserved chair" and the "reserved stand", Leslie?
Re the 46/7 season, was it Stanley Rous who, in typically understated style, said "before we were so rudely interrupted" _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

Steve
I think it was a latter day "Exec" deal, the reserved chair was in fact a chair with arms and would have been in the main stand but perhaps around where all the "better types" sat!, the reserved stand was also in the same stand[as there was only the main stand anyway] that had seating but was more for the "general supporter", 1930's when there was a class divide!.
Yes i have heard that also re Stanley Rous! |

Here's a nice little add on.
United physically recalled all season ticket books for 1939/40 for obvious reasons.
Send your season ticket book back in and get a full refund.
They didn't send the refund cheques out until 1944.
That's why there are so few season ticket books in Manchester United collections from that season.
What did other clubs do? |

I once owned a large poster from Wolverhampton Wanderers from 1940,s.
They were plastered all around the ground asking fans to donate their programmes for pulping towards the war effort.
No wonder they are more expensive than Manchester United Pre War |

So, Leslie, did you ever get your money back? |
No but i heard someone looking like you nipped in and beat me to it, you must have got a real kick in masquerading as me trying to be a collector of the biggest club in the world, must have been a long trip back to Grimsby back then
always accept in life if you give it out then be quite prepered to take it as well |
