Judging by ebay it seems for most clubs that the supporters club badges are the rarest and demand the higher price.

Would you agree with that?

As a general rule. yes, kind of.

The most valuable badges are the rarest ones. Generally this equates to the oldest, and the supporters club badges are usually amongst the oldest.

There are lots of other rare badges too thugh, not only supporters club, stuff like the Sheffield United Canadian Tour, the Palace 'Director' badge, Miller ball badges and so on

I've heard alot about the Miller ball badges, but i dont think they ever made one for MUFC.

Whats the story about the Sheff United badge?

This is the badge in question

http://www.footballprogrammece.....7cd01638d9

One went on ebay a few years ago, and a few Sheff Utd collectors were trying to psyche each other out on a thread about it. Went for a several hundred in the end.

This is the thread, from the 'old' badge forum

To be honest, Sheffield Utd have to be one of the few clubs with a decent number of serious badge collectors. It did get quite 'competitive' (if that's the right word for it) at one point. Basically, in the mid to late noughties, ebay really took off for club badge collecting, and a few people got a bit carried away producing enamel badges at quite a rate, in multiple 'similar' designs and colourways. Some people were collectors themselves, wich annoyed other collectors, as there was a feeling amongst some that people were taking advantage of each others collecting fanatacism.

I think it's fair to say those days have pretty much passed now, and things have calmed down to a much better state.

Man United did a very similar design for the tour to the US and Canada in 2010, I dont know weather it was official or an unofficial badge

The MU USA-Canada 2010 badge is not official. But it's a nice one. There is a Miller badge out there with MU I have a photo of it some where that I plan to put on my web page. I was offerd one 20 years ago for a mim £250 would be around £1000 today. At that time the Millers badges was selling for £100 no matter what name was on them.

Most of the sheffield united collectors have now stopped collecting all have seen hard times financially !!

I have bought up Marks , Coles , and Pods collections in the last 3 months at a fraction of the original price.

Sad really but my interest is as strong as ever.

The canadian-usa tour badge was the one I wanted the most and I now have that.

I'd say that over the last 2 years, I've been offered or had the chance to buy just about every single very rare Palace badge that exists due to other collectors suffering hard times and selling up, however I sadly haven't been in a position myself to acquire almost all of them, for similar reasons.

Will have to hope they 'come around again', which most things do, and will eventually - everything goes in cycles.

I wouldn't sell a single badge of my own collection though.
