Big thanks again to Holtie for posting the Middlesex Wanderers items on the African programme thread. Thumbs Up

Aside from adding another item to my "Oldest International programme" list I was intrigued by this team who seem to have a wealth of tour matches. Apart from the African games Holtie shared I've seen several items from Japan and Turkey amongst other places. They have in fact completed over 100 tours in 44 countries. On their website they boast to being "Sporting Ambassadors For Over a Hundred Years" and appear to have been early world wide missionaries for the game.

Their achievements are commendable for an AMATEUR club when you consider that many professional teams have had very few trips abroad even to this day. Does anyone have any other items to share and does anyone know how these trips were financed?!

There is an interesting Middlesex Wanderers programme in Sportingold's next auction Lot 1340 a match from the tour in Switzerland against SC Basel in 1924. Although condition is not the best it probably could be restored to a decent standard.

I think this is a photo of Middlesex Wanderers pre- First World War? Then again, l could be wrong! Two players with the Middlesex County badge on their shirts. I no longer have the original. The info on them and their overseas tours is on the internet. The cup could be one they won during these overseas games. They appeared to be a very progressive club with their tours abroad to help spread goodwill between countries through football. For some football historian they would be a great subject for a documentary.

County Badges were given to players for recognition as to representing their County. Some were also given Caps.

The picture above could be a Middlesex Club side, such as Uxbridge, Southall, Hounslow, etc etc.

I believe that Middlesex Wanderers played their early matches in a white top.

Middlesex Wanderers now play in white tops.

I have a couple of programmes from games played in the early 2000's. One against Calais played in France (good excuse for a booze trip) and an FA centenary game against a FA XI played at Dagenham and Redbridge.

My then brother in law, Steve Ward (Grays, Canvey and Chelmsford) was captain that day and as a result I asked to look after the 'lamb' for the game, which if you know Wanderers is a sacred task.

I know that he also captained tours to Japan and Botswana. Also went along to their annual dinner a few times at the Cafe Royale
