On the 9th May 1987 Burnley faced relegation to the Vauxhall Conference, if they failed to beat Leyton Orient. Even if Burnley did beat Orient they were relying on Lincoln City failing to win. Burnley beat Orient 2-1 and when news filtered through that Lincoln City had lost, the Burnley Orient game was immediately granted a place in the Claret's history.

It is the final game of the 1986/87 season and Burnley, one of the founder members of the Football league, needed to win to ensure they stayed in the league.

Burnley won 2-1 thus condemning Lincoln City to relegation.

The ironic thing about this programme is that it isn't rare at all! It's more about the significance of the game i.e. Burnley would have been out of the league (and possibly out of existence) if they had lost it.

There was probably more programmes produced for this game than the rest of the season put together!

it's a bit like the Red Star Belgrade v Manchester United programme from the Munich air disaster.
They keep turning up in Belgrade and Manchester and even more so now that the internet and ebay opens up the world.
In terms of value it holds its price at £1800/2000 and sometimes even finds people who think it is worth more.
It is the significance of this game which makes it collectable and valuable rather than the number of programmes held in collections
