Thanks to Mr. Millman for the thought for this one!!!

Having travelled far and wide watching Grimsby Town, and for the last 20 years Auchinleck Talbot, have sampled many an ale in my time...and a few drams to boot.
Being a real ale buff I usually try and find if there's a Wetherspoons in the area as a fail safe before travelling. Check my CAMRA guide for what looks like the best and head there. In Scotland it's much more difficult as real ale's only really taken off in the last 10 years or so, and most Scottish males tend to drink Tennants lager, heavy, or light - the heathens.
Last weekend I stayed at a wee country house hotel in Kenlis, just off J31 M6, and a mile or two past Garstang, called the Kenlis Arms. It was only £30 a night (special on line offer reduced from £45) and it had three really good ales on, but eventually settled for Copper Dragon from the Shipton Brewery. Beautiful! Set me up well for the Lancashire Fair the next day.
Having said all that, I've never come across a better pub than Billy Cairns's in Grimsby, named after the licensee who was Grimsby Town's last ever first division captain. It's Bass bitter, and the mild, were just heaven. It's real name was the Freeman's Arms, but everyone knew it at Cairns's.
Trips to Glasgow to watch the Talbot now always start at the Crystal Palace a Wetherspoons near the Central Station. Meet up with friends from Pollok for a very healthy pre and post match swally (in their social club) which usually leaves us gibberish.
Any others?

The Nailmakers Arms at the Old Den, Millwall.

Guaranteed a warm welcome by the locals as they douse you in Brandy and set you alight!

HOOTERS, Nottingham.

The views are magnificent! Cool

Honourable mention to:

The Farmers Arms, Ulverston, Cumbria

Back in the late 80s on our way to Barrow, pulled into Ulverston, and were given 90 minutes to explore the local watering holes.
A few of us found the Farmers Arms in the market square, they were selling 'Slalom D Pils' for one day only at 40p a Pint. Don't remember anything else, except being 20 minutes late for the coach, falling up the steps twice, and being threatened with expulsion from the supporters club.

Inside the Ground:

Walsall (Floors 2 Go Stand).

Warm, Friendly, relaxing atmosphere, and fully carpeted to boot. I mean honestly, carpets in Walsall..........whatever next.

Any boozer at Crewe, one of the few places you can go wearing colours and be made welcome by fans, police and stewards alike.

Also, Station Tavern at Huddersfield, Terrace at Stoke, Tut 'n' Shive at Doncaster, Steam Railway at Swindon and The Globe in Nottingham (in theory a home pub, unless we're away to Notts!).

Horrible establishment! There are many, many more better options in Nottingham than that place.

We are so blessed in Norwich, so many fine pubs all around the city!!

Trying to think of my fav is difficult as there have been so many.

Crystal Palace/Wimbledon - The Railway Telegraph - over the years we got to know the landlord and we used to put some serious money his way when Norwich played there. He was a great laugh, used to put free food on for us and the local Palace lot were brilliant. We also got promoted at Palace, well I say promoted, Palace beat Sunderland on a Tues night and we went. Well when we walked in after the game, they bought us champers and we never paid for a drink all night!!

West Brom - The Black Eagle (I think) - always made welcome in there.

Crewe - Always a good drink as mentioned already. We normally use the hotel.

Rotherham - Wish I could remember the name of it - wierd pub with Garden funiture inside!!!

Confused

Wish I could remember a few more.

Tha Clairgate & Mitre Inn (Tettenhall),
The Bentlands (Codsall).
Well worth a visit if you have time to kill before a game at Molineux home of the famous Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The claregate has gone downhill seriously in the last few years. Not worth the effort. The mitre still does decent beer and is a 'quaint' little pub on the green.
Nearer to the ground (Across the road) there is the Goalpost. Beer isnt great,(to be fair its pretty shite) but away fans are usually made welcome (unless they're baggies or bluenoses).

as for best pubs ive been to away, there was one in knutsford, some bear , black or brown i think, that i always used when visiting anywhere manchesterish. That was always a decent pint and food.
but dont really get to away games much these days.
