U2 Back a few years ago in the millenium - was too ill to go and see them in 09 even though I had tickets

Now thats a strange thread for a programme forum

1st band live Wishbone Ash 1972, quickly followed by all the others, Black Sabbath, Yes, Genesis (Pete Gabriels not that other guy who drummed a bit), Ted Nugent, Rory Gallagher, Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and boat loads of others.

Then in 1977 the real music came along. Punk. Still have my diary from that era which shows the 130 gigs I went to in 1 twelve month period including Stranglers, Clash, Buzzcoks (6 times) 999 (6 times), Undertones (thanks Fergal for the chips), Slaughter & The Dogs, SLF, Sham 69, The Boys, Drones, Uk Subs

Then a period of consolidation when very little live music seen. Then 2005 Kasabian and recently arguably the best live show ever Green Day. now that came as a surprise

Looking forward to the Isle of Wight to seeing the Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon and Kasabian ( will be the 16th time). Age has taken its toll and instead of roughing it the Mrs and I will be retiring to a nice comfy bed of an evening unless we get too pissed to remember where the hotel is.

Biggest regrets musically not seeing Hendrix (too young), Led Zeppelin (mum thought the queue was too long) and the Sex Pistols (no one believed me when I told them The SPOTS was actually The Sex Pistols on Tour and so they wouldn't go to their gig at Huddersfield Fire Station)

Oh and lets not forget the regret of seeing the Rolling Stones in early 1976. What a set of jumped up prima donnas.

Waffle over. And another thing Michael Jackson, Sheffield Don Valley Stadium 1996. Like him or loath him an absolute music legend.

Queen backing Mott the Hoople 1973 (first gig)
Motorhead late 70’s and early 80’s, on at least 20 occasions.
Sex Pistols 1976 & 77
Genesis 1974 (Lamb Lies Down tour) with Gabriel
Genesis 1977 (Wind & Wuthering tour) with Collins
Black Sabbath 1975 (Sabotage tour)
Little Feat 1977
Lynyrd Skynyrd 1977 (Last British tour before the air crash)
Pink Floyd 1977 (Animals tour)
Led Zeppelin 1979 (Knebworth)
Thin Lizzy 1976 (Jailbreak tour)

Football & Motorbikes took over in the 80's & 90's but I'm now reliving my youth and in more recent times I've seen,

Queens of the Stone Age x3
Eagles of Death Metal

Gigs to come include Roger Waters and Queens of the Stone Age in May and PIL in June.

One of the most dissapointing gigs i went to early mid 70s was Roy Buchanan (Liverpool Stadium) prob only about 200 people there Roy was an amazing "Blues" player his rendition of Sweet Dreams was truly a joy to behold.
And who could forget Fanny........shame on me.

Best live band seen has to be The Alabama Three, a superb stage show. Clash weren't bad, saw them on the anarchy tour in 76 at Cleethorpes Winter Gardens. The Pistols were kicked off the stage by the local skins, and the riot that ensued made the front cover of the following weeK's NME.
Missed seeing the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, but have seen the vast majority of all the other bands. Grew up with underground, moved onto prog rock, then punk, now a soul man who loves the blues and good jazz. So I've got a kalaedoscopic taste by looks of things. Floyd, Zeppelin, Stones, Free, Bad Company, Family, Queen, Quo, Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rainbow, etc, etc, etc - seen them all in my youth.
Now I love the local festival - the Wickerman - check it out. Always a good few days of music, a decent swally and all the other things one does at such places! Love it. 57 and still rocking in the free world....

I was there! Fantastic gig......

I worked at the Leadmill for 7 years so saw no end of bands....good and bad!

Personal favourites from my time there; That Petrol Emotion, Pere Ubu, Jamiroquai, Half Man Half Biscuit and Wolfsbane!

Aye Jim, I lost my one of my leopard skin slippers that night, saw it a couple of times being thrown from one side to the other. Stayed behind afterwards, scouring the place until I found it, along with £40 and several items of jewellery.

The Prodigy at Brixton in 96. They still say to this day it was their best gig.

I used to do 3 or 4 gigs a week when I lived in London, but in 2004 I got bored with all the dire support bands, rising ticket prices and expensive beer/merch and have never been to one since.

I have now done the same with England and wonder if club football will follow....

Sad recent loss, Captain Beefheart. Saw him and his Magic Band at Knebworth many, many moons ago. Can't remember if it was the Stones or Floyd headline festival. Brain was puddled by an intoxicating mixture of alcohol and herbs...well it was nearly 35 years ago now!

Tonto's Expanding Headband - one of the best underground / prog rock bands.
The Amazing Blondel - amazing live act. Lead man used to fart into a recorder or the like and play it on stage! Rumoured to take Bicarbonate of Soda before going on stage to prepare himself.
Groundhogs - Tony McPhee's guitar work stands out, especially Cherry Red.
Funkadelic - amazing soul / funk band from the US mid 1970's
The Crazy World of Arthur Brown - self explanatory
Kursaal Flyers - from Sarfend, great live act, good musicians and comedy as well.

Worked at Colston hall in Bristol for 2 years collecting tickets, showing people to seats, moving speakers etc so saw most decent groups at the time. Should have had the gumption to have kept some of those tickets, programmes, asked for autographs etc, but when your 18 the only thing on your mind is women and wheres the next drink coming from. Moved onto work in other Bristol clubs, Top Rank, Locarno and the Glen. Great times, should write a book about it really - except noone would believe it. Different world!
