Hi
I am trying to put together a list of variations in programmes for FA Cup Finals and other games played at Wembley stadium.
I am informed that there are up to 4 different variations for some of the games and any information on this would be gratefully received. |

Pretty sure the 1963 Manchester United Leicester Game has two versions with a change at left back for United...Leslie will doubtless confirm _________________ Currently disposing of my collection so please email any wants lists to [email protected].
Most Plymouth post 1959 but plenty of others including reserves, friendlies, Cup Finals Internationals and Club issues, handbooks and other sports. |

Mickster,
There are two versions of the 1951 FA Cup Final prog
1 version has Allan Brown at No 10
The other has Bill Slater at No 10
It was Bill Slater who played .. he was the last Amateur to play in an FA Cup Final !

Yes I can indeed. 2 versions with Dunne and Brennan at 2 and 3 and the other with Dunne and Cantwell at 2 and 3. The latter combination of Dunne and Cantwell played.
The Royal Box version has the correct line up, the Referee's copy also has the correct line up, but Cantwell's personal copy has the original line up with him not on the sheet. I do not intend to be crass about this but I have around 7 different copies[including my old man's] as well as around 12 different tickets. I have always tried to get tickets for any United Final at Wembley from different parts of the ground.
Never one to miss any opportunity to show a few bits n bobs from the 1963 Final, just follow this link https://flic.kr/s/aHsjewZ2r1 as well as https://flic.kr/s/aHsjH7gK47

There are two different versions of the 1976 Manchester United v Southampton programme.
Both were sold on the day as I picked up both versions outside Wembley after the game.
One has Fisher at #7 on the team page and the other has Gilchrist at #7 |

Very interesting thread. I am sure the obvious question is - do these variations affect the value i.e. is one version of programme rarer than the other? |

There were 2 slightly different covers for the England v Scotland 1981 game at Wembley.
One had an orange-surround colour scheme, and the other had white.
Both easy to obtain. |

Although not issued as 2 copies there were two different designs put up for selection.
The printers produced a small amount of a few copies perhaps 10 or so? and sent both designs to the FA to decide.
The White version was rejected and the Black version was sanctioned.
As is the case with other postponed or cancelled or whatever, there has always been "some few" who work at the printers and "liberate" a copy or so as a souvenir.
The ones that emanated from this game in 1985 to my knowledge number under 8 that have ever surfaced, the completist collector "must have" and to others it is of no interest as it was never issued-either way some were sold cheaply till others realised-today such an unusual item could easily fetch up to 4 figures and I do not mean 19.99.
I suspect the same procedure has gone on for years with design work as the more advanced with printing techniques have arrived and the demand has increased-as against the same boring format in the 1950 and early 1960's, with 1963 being the turning point cover wise. The FA well realised that to be able to charge a fiver then 7 then a tenner it has got to be something bold and special-still not opened a Cup Final programme that United were involved in since 1999-albeit went to every final since and bought , same can be said for every home and away since about that time in the League and the Cup's as well as Europe-well one day I will have to see all about Fred the Red and his exciting adventures!

There are 4 Editions of the 1972 Centenary FA Cup Final - Leeds Utd v Arsenal
Edition 1 and the most common - The Centenary Message on Page 2 is credited to Dr Andrew Srephens (Chairman of the Football Association) and the Arsenal Trainer in the Centre Page is listed as M STREET
Edition 2 - The Centenary Meesage is again Dr Stephens but the Arsenal Trainer is corrected to F STREET, The 2nd Edirtion was withdrawn being replaced by the more common 3rd and 4th Editions, The 2nd Edition is probably the rarest one.
Editions 3 & 4 have the Centeanry Message credited to Denis Follows (Secretary of the Football Association) and in the 4th Edition the Arsenal trainer is listed as S Burtenshaw. |
