As the title says, more unnecessary / unethical tampering from those well-known meddlers - this time they're targeting sellers like myself who refuse to post abroad - shunning their latest racket in the process, aka the "Global Shipping Centre" where they extort ludicrous fees from International buyers that usually reflect badly in YOUR feedback profile.
For an occasional seller like myself, selling abroad is more hassle than it's worth, so I make it abundantly clear in my adverts that I'm willing to sell to UK bidders only.
However eBay have now changed their format again so you can't opt out of their global shipping con.
I queried it and was told ... "only certain sellers have been targeted for this change" ... which I guess means those that refuse to use their shipping centre extortion racket.
So not only are these shysters robbing us blind, they're now dictating exactly who and where you will sell to as well.
Unbelievable Jeff, as some chap called Kamara tends to say.
Needless to say I have made it clear in my ad descriptions that I will not ship globally (in capitals as well), and will immediately cancel any sale that falls foul of my requirements - I'm darned and buggered if I'll be browbeaten into yet more of the eBay dictatorship.
Incredible.

Totally agree with most of your points Wiggy.
GSP postal prices are ludirous and off putting for overseas buyers.
That said, I do sell quite a bit overseas through GSP, so it works for me.
I also offer direct postage to overseas buyers as an alternative to GSP which gives the buyer the choice. It's not too difficult to work out and saves the buyer approx 75% of GSP postage fees on average.
Strangely enough, some buyers and sellers like the security of using GSP as opposed to dealing direct as once the item is with the GSP centre, the responsibility then passes to them.
A while back I queried you point about potential poor feedback for me over their postage charges and was told that anything posted via GSP does not give the buyer the option to leave feedback on postal charges and only the communication, description and speed of dispatch options are marked.
How true that is I have no idea!
I do find it a bit rich that Ebay look poorly on any seller overcharging on postage and then do exactly that....and then some!! |

So true, their own sense of irony is without equal mate.
Re your point about international sellers not being able to "star" you over postage charges, that may be true but it doesn't prevent them leaving you a neutral feedback (or worse) for feeling ripped off by the GSP. _________________ NEWPORT COUNTY & GENERAL FOOTY BADGES:

Changing tack, but still on the subject of eBay, I had a strange thing happen a couple of days ago.
I was bidding on a cheap programme that had a starting price of £1.00 and current bid was £1.20. I bid £4 but got a you've been outbid message, though the current price was showing as £2.20. I thought perhaps I'd put in a lower amount by mistake, so put in another bid of £4, only for the same outbid message to come up, with the price still showing as £2.20.
When I increased the bid to £5, this was accepted and I won the auction, but the winning price was indeed £2.20. |

You can manually opt out of the Global Postage still. I refuse point blank to use it. |

Yeah I always do as well, yet last night it wouldn't allow me to mate.
Yet this morning it is allowing it again.
I too refuse to use it, I don't like ripping people off, and pride myself on providing the same level of service & care as I like to receive. _________________ NEWPORT COUNTY & GENERAL FOOTY BADGES:

Hopefully that was just a glitch, eBay though are the masters at screwing both the buyer and the seller alike.
I buy my postage via the eBay postage system and was pleased to see the tracking system added. Thought I’d see if it worked - nope. Followed the links, doesn’t work. Tried a few - none of them work! |
