Recently got these 2 photos and on the back of each is written in the same hand "Crook T v Hounslow 62". One is stamped Topix and the other by a Hounslow local paper.

So it's the 1962 Amateur Cup Final, and the top one is obviously the Hounslow team with Princess Alexandra at Wembley. But it was a draw and the replay was at Ayresome Park.

So is the lower one Ayresome Park and is anyone able to confirm that the 2 teams are Crook & Hounslow?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Yes that is Hounslow Town. You can see the Crest on the attached picture matches the one on the player facing the camera.

The Crook & Hounslow shirts can be plainly seen in this picture of the Final at Wembley.

The shirts look similar to those in your 2nd photo Pete and looking at the stand and the state of the pitch I would assume it's Ayresome Park. The only thing that's confusing me slightly is that vertical stanchion which I thought was set back further, but the photo was taken before my first venture into Ayresome.

Thank you all for your help.

We'll go with Ayresome Park and the replay.

Cheers!

Rocky, if you don't have the book "Engineering Archie", by Simon Inglis (2005) then might I suggest you find one as it has a 4-page article about Ayresome Park inside - and indeed all the other grounds where Archibald Leitch was the architect.

Below is a poor quality shot of one of the pages in the book, showing the columns which until 1966 (just before the World Cup) stood in front of all the gathered fans. On the North Stand, the 10 columns were reduced to 4 in 1966. So when the Crook v Hounslow photo was taken in 1962 there would have been 10 columns standing in front of the spectators.

Thanks for keeping me on track Pete. Here’s a pic of the said stand from 1970 and you’ll see the stanchions that I was thinking about, in the middle.

Recollections of Ayresome pre-66 are very hazy for me…in fact I’m struggling with last week!
Thumbs Up
