Former Gas and County midfielder Ray Mabbutt, father of Kevin and Gary, has sadly passed away, aged 80.

Ray was the first professional footballer that I got to know really well personally.
He was a very single-minded, dedicated professional himself, and the a great help to both Kevin and Gary in their formative football years.

Yes, a very dedicated man as you say mate.

I've got a signed copy of his book somewhere, on how to play football.
Quite a quirky thing in itself.

I can imagine he was quite methodical in coaching his boys as nippers.

Sadly I was only one when he joined us in 1969, so never had the pleasure of seeing him play.
