Anybody else getting increasingly ticked off by the endless camera shots of the crowd recognising and waving at themselves on the big screen?
Gets right on my ruddy wick that.
Everytime somebody does it I feel like strangling the buggers.

Seems to be happening more and more in these tournaments of recent years too.

Does nobody in the stadiums watch the actual game going on in front of them anymore?
Do they spend thousands of pounds these days just to constantly stare at a giant telly inside a concrete bowl??
Why not stay at home with loads of beer & crisps and watch your own telly for free?!

Honestly I really loathe modern football.

While I'm at it, these things annoy me too …

* Players going over and grabbing the ball with their hands to force the ref into blowing for a free-kick.

* Players getting subbed and giving ‘high-fives’ to each and every one of the fifty people on the bench.

* Clive Tyldesley

To be fair I think most of them are watching the game, but then they themselves or someone next to them notices their face on the screen and they get excited.

In the 1980s when I was growing up, live football on tv was a once a week* treat on a sunday afternoon (and was usually Liverpool). You would forgive kids at the front of the stand waving like idiots when a throw on was in front of them as it was a novelty, a bit like my kid waving at security cameras in shops when he can see the screen next to the camera.

But these people are grown adults who have travelled abroad for a game or maybe a big chunk of a tournament. The sheer cost of it means they are probably not going to be first game fans, but longstanding fans. They are acting like utter muppets. At the Wales-England game yesterday we had it every 2 minutes for the whole game. And every time you have to wait for their 'wave at the screen' reaction.

Infuriating!

*cue people saying when they were young there was almost no live football on tv bar the cup final!

Yes it is annoying and you get it at all major sporting events now, Football, Formula 1, Olympic Swimming and even the BMX World Championships from a few weeks ago and so on.

Another annoying gripe is the official behind the goal-line next to the goal - what is the point of this official with goal-line technology now ?
I cant remember one decision that this official has made ?

Also the general standard of refereeing, because the European game and the English game are completely different in terms of physicalitity, I have seen a few "good tackles" penalised in this tournament.

I don't think you can assume they are longstanding fans - more likely they would describe a week in France watching some football as "the trip of a lifetime" or something to "tick off their bucket list"...

What is extraordinary is how few of them ignore the camera or mouth a few expletives

That's because they don't have a flag or a whistle. You don't actually see them making a decision because they speak to the referee and he then makes the call if he has missed something.

It would be no different to a linesman if he didn't have a flag.

Why label people "muppets" for having the audacity to wave when the camera zooms in on them? I dare say I'd do the same tomorrow night when I'm at Portugal v Austria, its almost a natural reaction.

Maybe the "problem", if there really is a problem, is that the TV producer should focus less on the crowd and more on the pitch.

Spot on Tynie.
There was one point in the game yesterday where we got to see the same three Welsh lads for about the fifth time for about half a minute. I had no idea if the ball was in play or not.

The TV coverage is determined by UEFA's broadcast and TV team.
Basically, all the directors are told to include shots that are all about "emotion", "crowd enjoyment" etc etc. Utter bobbins in my opinion but that's why we see pointless replays in super slo-mo of players grimacing or gesturing...whilst on the pitch there might have been a goal!!!

The crowd shots are just an extension of this mainly as the live feed also goes to the big screen in the stadiums so everyone gets their 5 seconds of fame!!

There's also the obligatory "VIP Cam" with more shots of the local Mayor, local celebrity (but unknown to 99.99% of the rest of the viewers).

Same formula every game.

I don't think I would want the camera homing in on me in case I was having a Joachim Low moment!

Those giant screens are nothing but a menace.
Ruddy grown men prancing about and getting overexcited like schoolgirls at a David Essex concert.
There was nothing wrong with the old ‘A,B,C …’ Half-time scoreboards.

About 300+ more fans could have been in the stadium yesterday if they hadn't had to remove a whole block of seats to accommodate a big screen

The match announcers need horse-whipping too.

Since when did they become cheerleaders?

Their decibel-defying "countdown to kick-off" is quite possibly the most excruciatingly, single annoying thing in a tournament since the vuvuzela.
