I have collected a lot of programmes in the last 5 years after re-starting my collection but space is becoming an issue for me.

I have had to decide to be much stricter on items I collect from now on otherwise I might have to downsize what I already have in order to keep on collecting and I don't really want to do this. Has anyone else come up against this situation?

Oh yes.
For years I used to collect anything I could get my hands on.
At a point about 30 years ago I decided to get rid of all things NOT Rovers.
I found an add in the local paper and took about a thousand unwanted progs with me. I came back with 250 Rovers ones I needed.
Very happy with the deal as the guy didn't even look through what I had. He estimated there were about 1000 and told me I could pick and 250 of his Rovers stock I wanted.

I've just had to recycle 500 post 2004 programmes to create space. These were from games I attended after the demise of my club and in context of the rest of my collection had little emotional or financial value.

I didn't like to do it but I just don't have the space to save everything but I do now have space to show off my main collection in a better way.

I also have space issues in that the last 15 years has seen United win the Premier League a few times and Champions League also but as there is so much of this type of programme around the £3.50 u spend at the next match is worth two pence in the long term.

In these 64 litre plastic crates[Staples offering at a tenner each at the moment] are every home and away in every competition since 2000-2001
bulk, bulk, bulk. I suppose there is some value as they won quite a bit where some clubs have not but the investment each week is not going to accrue so the 150 quid a year outlay[just pl games never mind Europe!] is getting more expensive and the glossy paper is becoming a candidate for "pulp fiction" except there is no fiction about it as it is a reality!.

Big decision this Saturday whether to keep this run going unbroken since 1946!

The 19litre XL really useful storage boxes have been a revelation for me. Storage is a massive issue, but you can never go wrong if you use space under beds wisely! Every nook and cranny needs to be exploited, and never be tempted to use a shed or a garage!

You can just see my use of the plastic boxes in this photo.

I gave up collecting Hearts current season run of the mill issues sometime around 1992, now it’s just from Hearts games I attend which is probably only a handful per season.

The only current season I collect religiously are Scotland home and away, Gibraltar home and away, Hearts v Hibs (probably none this season), Hearts in Final/Semi Finals (probably none this season), Hearts in Europe (defo none this season!), and my local non-league club (because I’m the editor!). The Internationals are kept in binders, the rest in the plastic tubs mentioned above with older stuff also in binders, so space isn’t too much of an issue at the moment although give it a few years and it will be.

The rest of the collection that falls out with the above is in a combination of binders, tubs and boxes in cupboards and the loft. This stuff will gradually be disposed of as space becomes an issue, although a lot of it is effectively worthless although throwing it away wont happen!

Going to have to make the same decision this weekend.

I have comtemplated stopping collecting new issues for sometime now but have never had the 'bottle' to do it.

I have always liked the idea of having every Blackpool league and cup programme, home and away, from 1946 to date.

If I was going to stop, now would probably be the time to do it with our demotion to League 1.

But I am off to Colchester at the weekend, new ground and all that, and will no doubt buy a programme which will probably set me off on another season's collecting.

At least you can get in at the away matches!, United get 2-3000 only and have 15000 who can go-buy yer programme and the local paper keep the ticket all part of the puzzle and then the Sunday paper for the match report. 5 more years of that nonsense and you will be sharing the beach on the North Shore with a Donkey! I have to admit that I have been a bit less than honest!

check this link https://flic.kr/s/aHsjevJPsS and then scroll down to the binders on the shelves, the Green ones are FA Cup and the Purple are Champions League from 2000 to date so these are to be added to the plastic boxes!-oops Laughing

When Leslie stops collecting current season, then the programme world truly is in decline. Surely you jest Leslie?

I'm looking forward to the first issues of the new season, keeping the York collection going forward from 1953, and re-acquainting myself with United in Europe issues again after an unforeseen break last season.

And there's the York tickets and teamsheets.........................And the local paper match report.

Bring it on!
