Russian seller o nebay listed a 1997 programme incl Waterford Ireland as a Buy it now. There is no definitive lsit of Irish friendlies and indeed I only discovered a couple of weeks ago I need a Waterford programme from last summer in Holland.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/tour.....1625868832

I bought it. It arrived today and everywhere in the programme it has Watford London England and the Watford lineups.

Seller is still insisting it is Waterford Ireland that played in the tournament. 4 emails from him now.

I have logged a case with ebay but they will no doubt insist I send it back and the cost of sending it back registered to Russia is almost the same as what I paid. Seller will no doubt claim he hasn't received it if I send it ordinary post.

No. they will give you're money back, regardless.

Been there as a seller, never saw the item again or my cash.

not for the return postage.

I bought a gps from China last year. it arrived broken screen cracked. Sent the photos - went to return it and the cost was almost £40 registered. I sent it ordinary post.

They claim it never arrived and I never got a refund as I couldn't provide proof of registered post.

charming I get the following response now

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
If it was a club from England, I would have sold this program is 5 times more expensive. This is a club from Ireland! I will not pay anything.
And more to respond to letters too, will not. I do not want to lose your time.

Sounds a right charmer. Can you sell it on to recoup your costs, or is it worth much less than it would have been if Waterford involved ?

I doubt it is worth much. it cost me £10 incl postage.

Had it been a previously unknown Irish friendly abroad no problem. I only discovered a few weeks back that Waterford also played in Holland alst year and I'd gladly pay £10 or more for that. I suspect the Watford collectors have it though.

Indeed I suspect the seller knew what he was doing as well as there is no mistake in the programme.

It is annoying that in these cases it is better to lie and say you didn't receive the item.

I was about to say that, open a case as “item not as advertised” and let them handle it.

It’s a clear case – in programme terms – of selling a Mini as a Maserati, and that’s not allowed!

Think the problem with opening a case is that he will be expected to return the programme to receive a refund. As the seller is being awkward, he expect him to claim he didn't receive it back and it's not worth sending by registered post as you can't claim back this cost.

Yes exactly I will get my money back but not the cost of returning the item.

1) I send ordinary post and seller will say he never received it. (I now know this for sure)

2) I pay £8 to send registered.

The moral of the story is LIE. Even when you receive soemthing by registered post that is incorrect you can lie and say the envelope was empty and ebay will probably side with you.

Of course the other option is not deal with dodgy Russians although there are many decent collectors over there and indeed dodgy guys in western Europe.

It cost a tenner . Is it possible to see the funny side of it and put it down to one of those things ? Some you win , some you lose. I think your real disappointment is that you thought you found a friendly you never knew was played. That I can understand , but I wouldn't stress out over a tenner , especially as the seller is 1000s of miles away.

Doesn't seem very funny to me. Anyway I'd much rather give the money to the Irish Post office then a dodgy Russian so I will be sending it back registered post and invoking the chargeback on ebay.

It reduces my loss to £8 and means dodgy Russian doesn't make anything.

Fair enough. I don't usually buy from abroad but I'm still waiting for a press photo from a seller in Belgium. He is well known so hopefully everything ok.

You put in a claim for item not as advertised. ebay refund you regardless after a short time. It's up to you if you then return item. If you don't you do not lose anything. I know I've been on the receiving end.

Yes unfortunately I initiated the return process on ebay although claiming it was not as described.

I'm currently waiting for ebay to confirm the seller's address.

I had this problem last year with the satnav. Bought from China arrived with a broken screen (reasonably well packed although seen a lot better). photos sent - seller appeared fine and in fairness probably was. I still had to return at my expense and chose the £10 way not the £37 tracked and insured way. Seller claimed they never received it and ebay ruled in their favour as I couldn't prove registered post. I'm still prepared to give the Chinese seller the benefit of the doubt but this Russian guy is clearly trying it on.

I will have proof this time.

That looks like Sir Stanley Rous.
