Saw Stranraer vs East Stirling Clydebank in the 1964-5 Scottish League Cup on ebay this week, and I put in a bid up to just around the £12 mark for it. At that price, I thought, there'll still be a decent profit in it if nobody outbid me.

1964-5 was East Stirling Clydebank's only season, as an amalgamation of the two clubs, before Clydebank entered the SFL in their own right in 1966-7. They had played in the Junior ranks prior to that.

What caught my eye about this programme (and remember the Berwick Rangers vs Stranraer 1955-6 League Cup programme I mentioned on here about 6 months back?) was it's date, August 8th 1964. The sectional element of the Scottish League Cup always used to pre date the league season, so I checked out the League Cup results for the 1964-5 season and found out that this was E.S. Clydebank's first ever competitive game as a league club, and all for the princely sum of £2.19! Lovely bit of history, and a cracking wee find.

Yes indeed John, good sleuthing. If it was something similar on the other side of the border, it would probably have not have gone unnoticed!

John, yes a good price, although it has dropped over the last few years as it does appear quite often on ebay. Unfortunately I was a buyer at the higher end of the scale.
Used to be £20 plus, then around a tenner, around a year ago a couple went for a fiver. To be fair they were not described as first away competitive game.
The programme i have never seen is their last ever away at QOS 21/4/65.
If you can turn that one up John it would be a very good earner.

Forgot to mention that the first ever competitive game was home to Stenny on 8/8/64 and the Stranraer away was dated 12/8/64 ( at least that is according to my records)

Was there a programme for the Stenhousemuir game though Eric? Thought the home game vs Stranraer was their first ever programme?

The 1st ES Clydebank programme was the home League Cup tie against Stenhousemuir on 8th August, John. This is a quite common issue that turns up regularly at various prices.

Stevie McAneney's excellent site confirms:
