Sorry if I missed it but I haven't seen anything about the fair on this site.
I assume that it is still on?

I'm thinking about it. I have been in the past and enjoyed it but (a) it's a fair way to travel from Cheshire and (b) it's not a great place for picking up Bristol Rovers programmes. Laughing

I will be having a stall there, coming up from London which is a damn sight further thanj Cheshire. However, if anyone would like me to bring anything specific, could you please let me know by latest lunchtim tomorrow (Friday) and I will endeavour to bring it with.

It would be good if you could introduce yourself to me as well so at least I can put a face to some of the names on here

I thought it was pretty disappointing this year. For me there seemed to be a lack of stalls selling programmes compared with other years, although there was an increase in stalls selling other memorabilia (books, photos, badges etc).

I noticed the previous organiser of the fair, John Wilson, in attendance wandering around taking it all in and was wondering what he thought. Long gone are the days when Basil Godley, David Young, the late David Howgate, Bobs Programmes, along with Mick Hewitt & Tony Lazenby were regular stall holders. Even Bazza was missing this year.

Thankfully Mick Hewitt made my visit worthwhile whilst our own John (Auchinlekian) Holroyd definitely had the most organised and well presented stall with plenty of content and variation. AB programmes were also in attendance and seemed busy whilst Sporting Gold were there but most of there programmes were pre-war & three figures. I do believe they had one of their back board for £5,000.

Did anybody else go and if so what were your thoughts?

I went to the Yorkshire Fair too, the first time I've been for a few years.

I thoroughly enjoyed it - maybe it was because I haven't been for a while, and didn't go with high expectations on the programme front as I've rarely picked up anything from my 'wants' at any fair.

As I've started to branch out a bit in my collection I picked up a few books, teamsheets, and badges.

I also had a bit of banter with a few folk and found the dealers very affable. Good to meet Keith Stanton in particular, who is selling off a fair bit of his huge collection of badges.

I can understand RockyBoro's observation about a lack of programme-only stalls, but I guess things move on for one reason or another. One thing doesn't change though - plenty of boxes at Mick Hewitt's stall for those who like rummaging!

All in all, a good day out, and pleased with my purchases at reasonable prices. Good location too.

My trip to Pudsey was blighted by having to go past Elland Road Wink

I concur with Rocky that it didn't feel quite as busy this year.
Perhaps the weather wasn't the best. Bumped into Posh1959, at Mick Hewitt's stall, Clive was sweating profusely as if he'd just run the four miles from home, but then again it was probably the thought of Mick's prices Laughing

I can only assume that PompeyGaz, was the hard looking bloke in the Pompey top. Didn't get the chance to have a word as I was a bit scared.

Over at AB programmes, the enigmatic, debonair, international playboy, Mr Benedict's words, not mine, was enlightening as ever. I've got a lot of time for Alan, and if I'd got a lot of money would have bought the subbuteo.

Alan informed me that he'd had a strange request for Bristol Rovers programmes, and did I think it was Mister Gas. I shook my head 'only if he was rubbing himself up against your stall whilst wearing a pair of women's knickers over his head'. In the end we came to the conclusion that 'badhand' had been in the building.

Then I met treble99, Mr Adler as it were, great to talk to, and highly entertaining to boot.

Over at Auckinleckian's stall, John obviously was still in morning for the Talbot. Felt sorry for the poor lad I even gave him a tenner. I hope everything goes ok for the grimsby fair, if he can get the Grimsby's chairman's daughter to perform a lap dance in McMenemy's bar I think it could be a big hit Love

Next door, Mr Hewitt was selling a Burnley programme guide to Minsterman, and later was selling a Leeds/Haarlem friendly for well lets just say a considerable amount. I could have had 80 Burnley programme guides for that. Laughing

Sorry I'm not au fait with a lot of dealers, obviously Chris Williams was there, Colin Boulter, the guy who deals in a lot of signed stuff, whose always trying to sell me Jimmy Hagan's signature, and a few others.

Overall, enjoyed it, as mentioned, not as busy as perhaps in previous years, but as a buyer I find it a nice spacious venue, without too much hurly burly on the front line as it were.
Minor mumbles, perhaps not the number of dealers as in the past, the centre of the hall felt very empty and as one who likes the variety of fairs, there were programmes, badges, and books, but strangely nobody had any tickets. Still well done to all who turned out, dealers, customers and forum members.

Regards, Sharrowblade.

Yes, I was in the building, and I did buy a Bristol Rovers programme from AB Programmes. Unfortunately after that I was too skint to afford much else. Smile Apologies for not talking to many people but I am a miserable sod. Enjoyed the fair. I think that it is a good venue and had a good selection of stalls.

i went to pudsey as i said before i only live in morley so took some time out from decorating the bathroom in preparation for selling me house (anyone want a 4-bed semi in a quiet part of morley for 210 grand with a very dry cellar ideal for storing programmes)!!! , anyway i didnt take a lot of brass with me as there usually isnt a lot of Pompey items and i told the wife i`d only be a couple of hours tops , but doesnt time fly when youre having a good time, got home skint but got some good stuff from mr boulter always nice to see him having last had a chat at chris gibbs portsmouth programme fair back in march, also bought a bargain mint condition QPR v pompey 61/2 from mr benedict & his missus -those two are some of the nicest people you could hope to meet at any fair. Got to agree with sharrowblade & badhand & minsterman about the dwindling amount of programmes but then again it is the yorshire programme & memorabilia fair so as previously stated maybe its a sign of the times. Should have give me a nudge sharrowblade cos im as soft as shite and i love talking football just ignore the missing teeth and the 6:57 tattoo and i was already way past my passout time with the wife but as they say -may as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb!!!!!

Yes - We were both there. It's the only fair as such that we attend, only to pick up a few big match from Mick Hewitt and to see some old faces. This year, we attended to see Chris from Sportingold as we have put some items into the forthcoming July auction.

Attendance seemed a little lower than usual and certainly from before when I used to sit at the door taking the entrance fees. Still an enjoyable day.

I must take issue with Sharrow Blade here, I'm afraid. I actually think I'm being stalked by AB, as he keeps turning up, uncannily, at the same hotel as my good self before fairs in the north.
Anyway, regardless of Alan's self descriptive words, I must enlighten Forum members as to a decidedly dodgy side to his character.
Having welcomed him warmly to the Corn Lodge hotel on the Friday night, AB and his good lady joined me for a chat, prior to their evening meal. AB asked the garcon what lagers he had, and when he'd reeled off about 50 of them, he replied "I'll have a coke thanks"
Despite my protestations about there being a real man's drink available - draught Black Sheep bitter - AB stuck to his guns and had his coke. I didn't hear him ask for a parasol, but you never know.....
Anyway, nice to do a mutually beneficial piece of business, with the debonair many of mystery.
