Since the recent price rise I have noted a couple of things:

1. I have received mail on different days that has not been franked or manually cancelled. At least one had incorrect postage - lower than it should have been. Is it now Royal Mail policy not to frank mail in certain areas / circumstances?

2. I sent programmes out to six people. All were second class large i.e. 101-250g, cost £1.10. I put one first class letter rate stamp (60p) and one second class letter stamp (50p) on each which totals £1.10. Imagine my surprise when I received feedback on E Bay the NEXT DAY that three had been received i.e. they had gone 1st class and not 2nd class as they should have. No problem to me but if you include at least one first class stamp amongst others, does the envelope go first class instead of second class?

Has anyone else noticed the above or any other "quirks".

I have recently sent some job lots of programmes out to various people and found it cheaper to send them out as 2 large letters rather than a packet, but obviously it depends on the weight / size.

I have done the same. I also found it cheaper to send a very large one as Standard Parcels!

Although I've not seen any recently a few people have told they are cracking down even more on price and size. It's as if they don't want the work Smile

If I were a postman I would be looking for another job asp because once they've squeezed all the juice they can out the customers they'll be squeezing the workers again.

You must be joking. Where else can i get the sort of money i make ? Not at Tesco stacking shelves for a fifth of the money. I'm getting on a bit and don't have an education, but boom times or recession makes no difference to me. If you like hard work and prepared to put yourself out you can make a very good living. The majority of postmen i admit are pretty lazy ( but it only mirrors life itself) so if you pick up the slack, it's great. And i don't know where they get the " Polish are hard working" from. In my experience they are every bit as lazy as the Brits. Laughing Cool

Perhaps they've just realised that working hard does them no good long term. Fact is big biz will look at the most productive workers to get their idea of how much productivity should be.

Sounds fine doesn't it ? except the company then demand more then that. The lazy buggers don't stay, the ones who worked well enough get despondent at being asked to do more for less. So where does that leave the one who where already "taking up the slack" as you say.

This country has the worst management in Europe because their only answer to everything is to squeeze or sack people.

Yep and here's the bloke who contributed to most of it.

Bloke got a knighthood by taking over companies, sacking most of the staff as a way to improve profit.

For some time now, probably a couple of years or more, at least half of the 2nd class mail I receive doesn't have any franking or manual cancellation. And a lot of these are large 2nd class. Certainly saves on postage when I am sending things out. Thumbs Up

That's naughty lol. I always put a line through the stamp so it can't be used again. It's true , thousands must be lost in revenue this way, but they are spending more time and money checking underpaid items.

I'm not sure Blackburn Rovers fans would agree.

You've been brainwashed by Royal Mail plc management .

Technically correct but do you really care if the stamp is franked or not ? - you must be one of the few on a fat bonus then ? The stampers in the Mail centre should do their job correctly .

Also isn't it the job of Revenue Protection to sort this problem .

Seems like the Postie on delivery is doing everything - must be flexibility again . Bet the postie on delivery won't get 1 % of the bonus the others receive !

Any pen lines through postage stamps on my mail coming through my letter box - i won't be tipping the Postie at Xmas -!!!!

Or maybe he's making sure that people don't use them again, and effectively getting free stamps, thus making the company even less money, thus making his own job more vulnerable

Maybe not changing the name to Consignia and then back to Royal Mail might have saved a few quid ! OR

Postmen running round like idiots to finish way before their time , cutting corners not taking breaks etc - may have saved few jobs .

Paying into the pension scheme each year instead of taking a 17 year holiday might have saved a few quid and not raised the deficit to the ridiculous level it reached .

If you think putting a line through a postage stamp to stop it being re-used is gonna save jobs - you're sadly mistaken .

Get Cameron out on delivery - bout time he learnt what its like to do a proper days work !
