The auction details state:

"The entire collection of football programmes belonging to the late Gordon Bennett of Westward Programmes. Over 100,000 programmes from 1940's onward comprising of Premier League to Non-League Clubs including Scottish Clubs, FA Cup, European and International Teams."

Honiton - a long way to go and collect.

Im afraid there looks to be an awful lot of run of the mill stuff that you can't normally give away. The auction details have about 50 individual programmes listed and then pallet after pallet of 10p programmes.

A long way to go for some to collect one programme!!

Its got disaster written all over it. I do wonder if someone has been very poorly advised and not gone to one of the specialist auction houses

Well I am crossing fingers that they get a good result. I suspect though that the location and lack of courier will hamper this. There were a couple of items/lots I wanted but it’s quite a trek from Jarrow lol. Some programme dealer from the South West is gonna pick up some bargains

Ultimately the loser will be Gordon / his Estate.

Very poorly arranged by the auction house.

I hope the people who have bids on 29 lots have read the conditions before placing their bids. No bids yet on any pallets.

I saw a question and answer session somewhere yesterday. Someone asked the auction if they would consider posting out lots. The auction house replied it depends on size of the lot, please phone us to discuss. So it looks like they are prepared to send out individual programmes but not pallet lots.

Quantity not quality unfortunately. Unlike Duncan Chilcott’s Bonhams auction at Honiton in the 90’s. Picked up some fantastic Swindon homes from the 20’s and 30’s. The pasties from the crusty cob weren’t bad either. Fond memories from a great day out in Honiton.

I rang the MST Auction house this morning as there are some individual programmes I'm interested in and was told they do and will post small unbreakable items at buyers cost.
I pointed out that their Ts & Cs could potentially put off a lot of people from bidding, which they acknowledged and said they would update their website to indicate that they will post.
I hope this helps other who maybe interested.

I'm always looking for Reading programmes, Teamsheets and Ticket stubs!

Sounds like a very unprofessional auction house to me.

I spent a while last night looking through Gordon's collection on the auction site.
Like others have said, it's been abysmally displayed with very little effort put into it and the losers will be Gordon's estate.

The location of the auction house and a lack of courier service will mean most potential buyers won't bother.

Would it have taken too much effort to put the pallet lots in team lots, or given more information on the contents of the tubs and folders?

The pallet lots will be lucky to sell at all as they look to be run of the mill 10p jobbies, but it'll be complete guesswork as to how many are in those lots.
Surely they could have put an "approx 500/600" etc in the listing.

Having known Gordon for many years and knowing how much effort he put into what he did, I came away from the site feeling quite sad.

Gordon's sister's thread on our sister site

https://footballmemorabilia.boards.net/thread/529/auction-gordon-bennett-programmes

I hope I am wrong but I have a feeling she will be very disappointed with the outcome.

I read an article in a 1960s Goal magazine recently where a young Bristol Rovers fan by the name of Gordon Bennett had won the National "Fan Of The Year" award.

Looks like it might have been him. (?)

Dunkeswell is in the middle of nowhere - I jumped out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft there!

Like you all above, they will be difficult to move. Also, I haven't had an email from Easylive auctions about these items either.

The Gordon Bennett auction closes today. It is one of those irritating timed auctions when if you bid at the last moment it extends the auction for five minutes.

I have, despite being on a self imposed buying ban, placed a couple of bids for old times sake. If I win all well and good and if not I have helped an old friend shift some stuff that would otherwise be clogging up his storage shed in the sky!

Farewell and keep smiling GB

Peter
