Offers please for St Bernards v Brechin City dated 15th August 1931.

This was a Second Division fixture and was the first home league game of season 1931/2.

The programme is 8 pages and is in good overall condition without writing.

There is a horizontal fold and slight creasing.

The staple is missing with some rust marks around the staple area.

As the forum appears fairly quiet at the moment, no doubt due to the nice weather and holidays, I will leave this open to offers throughout August.

Please PM or email [email protected] with any queries or to make an offer.

As you know it was not a run of the mill league issue , but a league cup semi final, possibly the hardest post war league cup s/f to obtain.
A couple of months ago we discussed this programme as I said it was probably worth 1k plus. The buyer may feel he has saved himself a few quid !!!! Shocked

Yes I know it's a hard programme to collect Hibernian, but it had team changes as well so I didn't think it was worth that amount, when you see a 1931 / 1932 going for £180 you wonder where is the best place to sell as that doesn't seem a lot. There was an 1938 Hearts home programme went for £340 in an auction a few months ago but If you don't know these things you can't put a bid on it. Any tips would be most welcome.

Hearts, Aberdeen and League Cup semis are all well collected though, aren't they? Not too many Brechin or St Bernard's collectors around!

Aye the 46/47 SF was always going to go very high, two well collected clubs plus a big match issue, plus one of the hard to obtain “small sized” immediate post was Hibs issues.

Not quite a “bargain”, but it could have gone higher.

The St.Bernards issue is very nice indeed, but not too much in demand, a historical oddity I suppose. Hearts pre-war are also very hard to turn-up. I have one, 36/37 v Aberdeen but I’m not sure I could ever afford another although a pre-war derby would be nice!

Yes it is a nice programme and I must admit I thought it would go for more.

There was quite a bit of interest though but nobody with deep pockets.

Might have done better at auction but who knows.

sadly its all about who is out there to buy it. With several people interested it will go for more but at a guess these two teams will not have many "serious collectors" so unlikely there will be much of a bidding war. As often said in this hobby, something is worth what someone is willing to pay. The term rare is only relevant if it is accompanied by several people being interested in it.

I used to follow Croydon in the Isthmian league and have a couple of reserve programmes from late 70s that I attended. Probably on 10-20 printed. Thus definitely rare but sadly no-one gives a monkeys so no monetary value.

Usually when you have a rare item from less collected teams the best way to maximise return is to chuck it into auction or ebay with a high reserve and see if anyone willing to pay then steadily reduce price until it is purchased. Starting at low end will only yield a good return if there is a bidding war as it takes 2 to make an auction.

All very true goonerboy.

I was going to put it on Ebay with a high start and then reduce little by little.

I do sell a lot of my spare stuff that I have accumulated over many years via Ebay but thought I would offer this one on here for a change.

I'd also thought abou putting it in auction.

On balance by not paying Ebay fees, commission or possibly even PayPal fees, the end result may not be too bad especially when the demand is not like some other clubs.
