Purely a guess, but as the price is shown on the page I would assume the picture above is indeed the front cover.
A gem if complete. _________________ Nuts and Bolts Web Design

Thanks for the info kcs and sharrow I tried a google.
I found a bound volume from one of the top Auction houses in early 2000's that went for over £8,000.
And the Bradford man Gary Rhodes ? has got one on his site same season v Man United the same cover
I will advertise it as a full programme.. Unless someone tells me otherwise.
On the subject of bound volumes over 20 years ago I purchased a beautiful bound volume of Bradford Park Avenue from 1913/14.
It had green covers apart from the one v Woolwich Arsenal which had a fantastic Red and Green Christmas cover |

In my opinion this is the inside page. Bradford City were great producers of programmes and i feel this one would have had a cover for sure.
Looking at the one you have shown and others to me they were all from bound volumes and the tell tale sign for me is the left hand side where there are 5 marks where the cord has gone thru the programme to keep it in place in the volume, no programme ever had 5 staples. Anyway this is just my opinion but to me it is without a cover and if Gary Rhodes shows it in a similar style then maybe he also had no option to use it as however few have and do turn up may have all emanated from a bound volume at some stage.
Treble99 shows 2 fine examples of a Bradford City v MU 1910-11 & 1912-13 with covers to reinforce the opinion that this other example v Preston in 1908-9 has had it's cover removed.
Just as a matter of interest one of my favourite programmes is this United away at Bradford City 1921-1922
http://flic.kr/p/4XAnwG
They were great producers of programmes always with stylish covers as this and other examples clearly show.
Cue in Treble99 to show his images to everyone...... |

It appears that where there's one there's two (and many more in this case). I also bought one from that season several years ago and there has been continued debate as to whether this is the cover or not. |

Sorry for coming in late on this thread
I believe i have information that may help with this question.
Another Manchester United collecting member has suggested it is a "no cover" programme for sure, because it has been in a binder and Bradford City were known for producing programmes with ornate covers.
He is correct on both statements
HOWEVER
On this case i have compelling evidence that i believe shows him to be incorrect.
I have other Bradford City v Manchester United programmes from around this era and having inspected them i would comment as follows
1908/09- This was only a 4 page crude card and certainly not remotely like the programme we later expected
1909/10-THE SEASON IN QUESTION
Please look at the image supplied by Barry and i will guide you round the important information.
It is certainly ex bound volume and it was not uncommon for bound volumes to have the covers removed
It is New Series so possibly the stylish cover has not yet been developed.
That said the top part is still fairly ornate for what is a new development in programme producing.
Don't forget Bradford City had only been formed in 1903/04.
They won promotion to division in 1907/08
The illustration shows everything you would exect on the cover of a programme.
Price,date,programme number publisher
So let's move on
I was tempted by my cue from another member not to post any illustrations but i think it is important
As you can see this is the next season(Bradford City v Manchester United 1910/11)
Again ex bound volume but again has everything ir price, programme number, publisher, date
This now has the ornate cover we expect and you would be hard pressed to convince me this is missing a cover.
I also have Bradford City v Manchester United from 1912/13 and the same comments apply
If you accept the 1910/11 as a full programme(and you would be hard pressed not to) and the same comment for the 1912/13 then you have to conclude that Bradford City bound the programme complete and as such the 1909/10 ,is in my opinion a complete programme
I would be happy if somebody can show me any Bradford City home programme from 1910/11 or 1912/13 with a different cover from my own collection.
It would be a shame to miss the opportunity for me to invite you to view the worlds largest Bradford City v Manchester United pre war collection at
www.flickr.com/photos/63580000@N04/sets
Check out the relevant season to view the covers of these programmes.
I hope that helps Barry
OK
ps also available for your interest are examples from 1922/23 and 1924/25.Click on the season to view |

Hi Guys , having not been on this forum for a few days I have only just seen this thread re the 1909-10 Bradford City Home Programmes .
I have 7 home scanned programmes for this season and every one is of a similar outlook and in my opinion of having collected Bradford City programmes for nearly 30 years I would say that the one you have bazziebaggies is a complete issue .
I've never ever seen anything different and as one of the other members mentions it does have the price on the page .
I have one scan v Aston Villa that doesn't show any signs of coming from a bound volume and has no staple marks .
I could be wrong but unless anything surfaces to prove against me then I will stand by my statement .
Regards Garry |

Thanks mate Sadly my site isn't running as it should be at the moment as it was moved to another server and lots of my links with scans got broken along the way .
I do have that programme scan saved on my hard drive but surprisingly that is the only Home programme scan I have of that season !!
What I am missing though are any Home scans pre 1909-10 and also the followings seasons .
1911-12 , 1913-14 , The 1st world war years (be amazed if any produced) & the 1939-40 season before the 2nd war broke out . Again we only played 2 fixtures .
So if anyone maybe able to help out it will be very much appreciated .
Regards Garry |

Garry
if you log onto the worlds largest private quality Manchester United collection at
www.flickr.com/photos/63580000@N04/sets
i think i can help you
Look at the set marked pre Ist world war
The cover picture is the front of the programme from Bradford City v Manchester United from season 1908/09
Look into the set and you will find the rest of the programme together with Bradford v Manchester United from 1910/11 and 1912/13.
I know there i also a copy of 1909/10 somewhere as well.
I didn't get time to look at it as i am about to go to Luton for the biggest gathering of Manchester United collectors since the famous auction by Phillips.
Indeed this is mostly the post war part of that collection regurgutated.
I am very interested to see what the quality items currently fetch. |
