Postponed match issues – love them or hate them?
I can’t give up on the chase for the elusive York City issues I have needed for donkeys years, even though the issues may not even exist. If only we had a time machine!

But here’s a modern dilemma.

Grimsby were schedule to host City on Saturday Feb 11, but the game was called off on that morning due to heavy snow. I contacted Grimsby on the Monday, and was assured that no programmes were being released as they would all be re-used with a 4 page wrap for the re-arranged fixture. It seemed fair enough....a fellow collector spoke to someone different at the club and got the same response.

Come the re-arranged game on March 13th, the original programme was issued. All the contents were intact and clearly the original......................but the original cover had gone as the issue sold had a completely new 4 page outer wrap, with a new match date etc. The cover had been separately stapled to the old inner programme. Page 3 of the programme (being original) had a picture of the original cover, which whetted the collecting appetite!

I contact GTFC post match as I didn’t attend the game, and they politely insisted that that had no copies at all of the original (I tried to buy 10-15 for other collectors) as the boxes had never been opened that snowbound Saturday.

The printers were the next port of call – they maintained that they had shredded all the original covers as part of the process of producing the new issue.

So, is this an issue to chase, or an issue that has been made available in the way the club intended? After all, programmes with lucky numbers printed inside etc are all unique and we don' chase every one ever produced. Man Utd produced many different varients of homes with or without tokens, or with the token overprinted.

But.....some will have sneaked out – they always do.

I want one! Please can anyone help, or do I just need help!

Grimsby have done this a few times over the last couple of seasons and I doubt very much if an original cover copy becomes available.......but.......you never know!

There would be if I was still in the club shop. Unfortunately, I left there 21 years ago....

Not losing sleep over this one, incidentally, it's more about the dilemma of chasing items that probably don't even exist.

I can understand why many collectors don't bother with postponements - why chase issues for matches that never happened?

It's all part of the club's history which isn't recorded in statisticians records normally - I collect the Millwall ones, unfortunately there are a couple of others who do as well.................
