This badge on sale for £500 starting and already has a bid.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1108.....1423.l2649
A 1946 tour badge went for just under £500 last week.
Seems to be one mad Rusky bidder.

Abramovich?!

To be fair if he's bidding £500 for a badge it's unsurprising he's won most of the stuff he wants!

It's not just badges - on ebay any old press photos (not even decent ones) are bought up at whatever price it takes - if the starting price is £99 for a black and white 'press photo' from the 60s (for example), then you can guarantee there's a bid on it.

And when I looked down the Sportingold auction results, apart from the obvious high value items (ie really old cup finals), pretty much all the high end prices were for obscure Chelsea stuff.

I'm not really affected as I support/collect Palace, but one (or a few) Chelsea fans are making collecting good stuff very hard for your average Chelsea fan.

It's either Abramovich, or some City Banker has just got a big fat bonus and is spending it like a rich kid in a sweet shop!!!

The irony is that I have 2,500 Chelsea badges but don't want to sell them all! I put some of the duplicate old ones up for sale so will see how that goes.
I am with you and think there is someone bidding on Roman's behalf. Having said that it looks like this Rusky is bidding on all kinds of badges - not just Chelsea.
Time for us to become millionaires and lob our collections out! (ok... hundredaires then Wink )

It just goes to show how one or two people with more money than sense can skew the market and inflate prices. Sort of like transfer fees and insane footballers' wages! Once they have gone away the prices drop and normality is restored, but cash in if you can or need to!

I played a little game with him last night on an old Halifax Town badge,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1108.....1426.l2649
The badge is worth about £40-50. I bet he's put at least £300 on it but i won't be risking anymore as i already have about 6 of these in my collection.

honestly, i am tempted to sell some of my rare ones now and cash in knowing that in a few months i could buy them back cheaper. unless of course the only way we can save ourselves from going to hell is by owning lots of old enamel badges!
one chelsea badge went for £820 which only a few weeks ago had no bids the first time round it was listed (albeit for £500 starting). Kerazzzeee!

I'd say cash in while you can and take advantage of the free listing weekends starting them off very high for free, i remember when some Russian programme collectors first started using ebay and anything that went on for the first time went for astronical amounts, the same items now sell at a fraction of the price now the Russian collectors with the biggest wallets have them

I had three Chelsea 80's badges that I sold recently - went for over £100 for the three and they were not even high end decent stuff! I must admit I was quite suprised!

Someone has listed an old Palace badge (worth about £70-£80) on with a start price of £500.

Good luck to 'em I say

The £500 opening bid on the Palace badge is by the same person who ended up paying £820 for the Chelsea one.

I've got exactly that same Palace badge too. Genuinely willing to sell it for £500 right now if anyone wants to buy it off me for that. Absolute idiots out there!

If a second bidder enters the fray for the Palace badge, I'm gonna stick mine on as a "Buy it now" double quick!

What's the secret? List an old badge that has a decent 'makers name' and start it really high so it catches their attention?

Don't want to lose one of the nicer badges in my collection, but if its going to realise that sort of price I can live without it and clear my overdraft

If you look at football badges for sale on ebay and order them from most expensive first, this gy is bidding on loads at £500+.

So for the sake of £1.30 I've taken a punt and stuck one of my old rarer Palace supporters club badges on there. It's the black and white ound 'ball' badge.

Will be interestting to see if they take the bait!

Can you post a link to the listing I want to keep an eye on it.

Also how much do you value it at?

I value it at about £80. Will be very interested to see if it gets a bid. Worth £1.30 for the suspense!

Its wrong i know but i'm sure if somebody else was good enough as to place a bid on it for you and make it look more desirable he'd take the bait!
