Please can someone give me some advice on ebay feedback, such what the policy is on who gives the first feedback?
I was under the impression that if me, as a buyer, purchases an item and pays straight away, then the seller should leave feedback first. Then when item is recieved by me then i will then go and leave feedback.
Sound correct?

I only say this because the other day i bought an iphone off ebay, purchased it on "Buy it now" and paid straight away.
Few day later i recieved the item and was very happy with description, item in general, no problems at all.
The same day i recieved the item, the guy emails me asking to leave feedback, i thought this was a bit quick of him, but proceeded to leave feedback.
Since then i have sent him 2 messages for him to leave me feedback but to no avail!.

This makes me mad as i thought that the seller should always leave feedback first, so i have now decided not to leave any feedback to those who dont leave me feedback first (me as a buyer)

Am i correct in doing this?

Cheers
Phil

Yeah I carry out the same policy as you. Seems logical to me. I can't stand the people that don't leave any, very rude and arrogant and sometimes I don't know if the item has arrived!

As a seller, I will always leave feedback when I've received payment for an item, since the buyer has then completed their part of the transaction. Likewise as a buyer once the item has arrived I'll leave feedback.

I do think that it's unreasonable for the seller to ask you to leave feedback and then not do so himself, but what can you do besides not leave feedback until you get it? If everyone did that then nobody would ever leave any.

There is no policy.

Ultimately, its up to the individual, whether he's a buyer or a seller if he wishes to leave feedback, and when. Some do see it as poor form if feedback isn't left immediately, but it's unrealistic, not everyone sits at a computer all day.

I'm sure that in my 1200 odd transactions on ebay, there are a few people who didn't leave me any feedback. I'm not bothered and I'm not going to be going through checking it neither.

Some sellers do leave feedback immediately, when someone has paid, others prefer to receive feedback from the seller as a way of knowing that an item has arrived. More importantly, some legit sellers have probably got cheesed off with leaving positive feedback when buyers have paid straight away, only to get negative feedback when the damn thing hasn't reached it's destination within 24 hours.

However, as a buyer of football programmes, I actually prefer to leave feedback first, (I will be in a minority, I expect), I have found on a few occasions that sellers who leave glowing feedback immediately, can be attempting to pressure buyers into leaving positive feedback because the goods in question aren't exactly as they are described.

In the end, if you're happy with the purchase, p&p, delivery etc, then why worry? Confused

There is no policy and surely the idea is that if you are happy (or unhappy) with the transaction then you leave feedback. That should be regardless of whether the other party in the transaction has done so. If everyone waits for the other person to leave feedback first then no one would would ever leave any. If you are seller and buyer has paid then they have completed their end of the transaction. If you are a buyer and happy with the item then that is all you need. After all you bid and won the item, you don't bid in order to get feedback. So if you are happy with item and service then say so.

Right. First of all, this is a very sore point for me that I feel very strongly about. The seller shold ALWAYS leave feedback first except when sending out an item before payment has cleared (some people do this with low value cheques etc). I am not even going to try and justify this as some people will just NEVER see the bleeding obvious. Ebay used to have something on their website stating that sellers should leave feedback first but now the site states that there is no policy on who should leave feedback first (just eBay lacking spine as usual).
I used to leave a negative as a matter of course where sellers didn't leave feedback. This was a while ago before sellers couldn't leave negs so obviously I received a lot of retaliatory negs which only confirms my belief that sellers are holding buyers to ransom over feedback.
Sellers can't leave negs anymore. Maybe I should start leaving negs again. I would love that even though it is obviously well over the top.
As a buyer, I usually end up leaving feedback first but always give the minimum amount of stars for communication.
I find it dissapointing that some people are now holding back on feedback when selling just because everyone else is. Yes, it is annoying when you leave feedback for a seller and four weeks later you are still chasing them up for theirs but that's no reason to treat EVERYONE like an idiot or as if they can't be trusted with feedback. Stick to your guns and leave feedback first and maybe one day things will be put right and the ones who remained true will be rewarded.
As a seller, I ALWAYS leave feedback the moment payment has been completed.

You left negative feedback as someone never left you feedback? Frankly that’s just abusing the feedback system.

I admit I don’t leave feedback as quickly as I should, it sometimes takes me a week or two given I’m not a daily user of ebay, although I always get round to it eventually. Why get so hung-up on it? I have had 500 feedbacks left over the umpteen years I have used ebay, it’s at a stage now where I’m not really bothered whether someone leaves me feedback or not. (and I never check).

I certainly don’t chase people for feedback, maybe they don’t want to leave me anyway? Fine by me, it’s an option to choose after all, just the same as positive, negative and neutral. If I’m selling an item, I’m sure the buyer will be quick to let me know if it has not been received.

I had someone chase me for feedback recently who had over 10,000 feedbacks and a 100% rating, why the heck is he chasing up feedbacks? Personally I have better things to do with my time.

I couldn't agree more. I find feedbacks pointless and boring. I just say good service, thanks and that's it. I don't know if people leave me feedback or not as i delete the listing once i recieve the item. I honestly couldn't care less.

Am also ambivalent about feedback. Like Tynie Topics it might be a week or two to do it as there are more important things to do in life like cutting your toenails.
Recently had a package pop through chez Auchinleck and the seller asked me to leave feedback and he would do so immediately after receiving mine. He'll be waiting a long while....

I too always leave feedback as a seller as soon as the buyer has paid. As a buyer I will never leave mine until the seller has left his/hers as I believe that once I have paid then I as the buyer have done my bit. As others have said though, I can' really be bothered to worry about it. If I don't get feedback from someone I don't care. If someone pesters me to leave feedback though they will get ignored.

I agree with Pastpirate. As a seller, I always leave feedback as soon as payment has been received, and that is how I feel every transaction should be. Surely if the buyer has sent payment, they have fulfilled their side of the agreement, so should receive feedback. I would never wait for someone else to leave feedback before I left mine.
However, we are talking about a system that rates members, but it is common knowledge that the system has been abused by small minded, petty people who have too much time on their hands, and consequently the whole system is now worthless. So, if someone doesn't leave feedback for me, I couldnt give two flying f*cks!
