If you had programmes that you wanted to sell at auction would anyone recommend a particular auction house?
Does any one achieve a higher price, or charge less or provide a better service?
Does anyone on here have any experience of using them? |

What kind of programmes are you talking about? Post 1960's programmes unless they're unusual / rare fetch next to nothing. If you've pre 1950's items they're always likely to sell well at Sportingold. You can google them easily enough, and Chris Williams would always advise you free of charge. |

I suppose another consideration is where you are located in the country and whether you want to attend on the day.

In my opinion , you can't get better than ebay. Why? Because time and time again, i have seen programmes sold at auction only to turn up on ebay a few weeks later. That has got to tell you something. Also , i bid £100 on ebay i pay £100. At auction i pay a buyers premium, which straight away , is going to lower my bid. There is an amazing Sunderland collection on this months Sportinggold, and i just know some if not most of it'll turn up on ebay in the next few weeks. I'm not knocking dealers for one minute. If they take the time and trouble and risk in buying at auction, using their knowledge , and try and make a living , then good luck to them. |

Don't forget though Wullie, it's two completely different markets, and anyone who sells on ebay has their listings fees to pay - and if they're decent programmes that can be fairly expensive; there's then the final commission price to pay on the sale - which can be 10%; then there's the Paypal fees. They all add up - and you don't get the expertise that having someone like Chris catalogue your items, research them as well if needed, and sell them with your reserve price which ebay charges handsomely for. Also, no sale no fee - ebay doesn't do that.
If I was ever going to sell my collection of programmes it certainly wouldn't be through ebay, too time consuming, and no guarantee - different selling the odd ones here and there. |

Thanks for your suggestions so far.
I do appreciate what Auchinlekian said that it is probably only worth selling older/rarer programmes at auction |

Time and time again I've seen programmes bought on ebay and put into an auction house or given to Roy for Sports catalogue.
Different places for different items.
For really really rare stuff I wouldn't use ebay as you still miss quite a few collectors. However it is better for many items including finals particularly european finals. |

I wish i could make it to the Sportinggold auction. They have amazing stuff. Why are all these auctions held on a midweek day whilst most programme fairs on a Sunday ? I know you can bid by internet but i'd much rarther go to them. |
