This is the statment printed in the Chester Chronicle.

THE Football Conference has issued a statement following crisis-hit Chester City’s seven-day suspension from the Blue Square Premier on Thursday afternoon.

Dennis Strudwick, general manager of the Football Conference, has stated:

“The Board of the Football Conference has given exhaustive and thorough consideration to matters at Chester City FC following the Club’s failure to fulfil its fixture at Forest Green Rovers FC on Tuesday, February 9, 2010.

“During consideration on events ensuing at the club, the Cheshire Constabulary has withdrawn special police services due to be provided at the Club’s match at the Deva Stadium on Sunday, February 14 against Wrexham FC, for failing to pay policing costs by a due time.

“As a consequence, the Cheshire West & Chester Borough Council has issued a Prohibition Order on the Club preventing the admission of spectators into the ground, as the inadequate number of police officers will involve a risk so serious that admission ought to be prohibited, until appropriate steps have been taken.

“Chester City FC, therefore, is unable to fulfil its engagement on Sunday.

“Pursuant to other matters currently existing at the club, the Football Conference has served charges for breaches of five separate competition rules upon the club which include the failure to fulfil the above two fixtures.

“The club has been given seven days to respond to the charges, and/or request a personal hearing. The charges, and a personal hearing if requested, will be considered on Thursday, February 18, 2010.

“Meanwhile, the club’s fixtures have been suspended; resulting in Chester City’s home fixture on Wednesday, February 17, against Kidderminster Harriers being postponed.

“As these matters are now subjudice, no further statement will be issued until after the meeting of February 18.”

Opportunists are already selling the FGR v Chester programme on e-bay as possibly the last ever Chester programme. One went for £8.81...They are available from Forest Green Rovers FC for £3 incl P&P. Mine is on its way Laughing

Farsley Celtic next. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_conf/8552727.stm

Funny, how these clubs dont get 1 millionth of the coverage that Portsmouth get.

Talking about Portsmouth, how arrogant are they? Their supporters trust are saying they have to be admitted straight into the conference premier if they go pop as clubs lower than that wont be able to cope with the number of away fans. Deluded fools!

I for one wouldn't mind if they do go into the BSP, as it might give my team, Grimsby, a (unwarranted) stay of execution. Agree with the sentiment though with the trust saying that if they drop too far clubs couldn't deal with the crowds. Cheeky shits! I well remember the likes of Aldershot taking huge travelling support with them much lower down the Pyramid.
Couldn't see Pompey taking too many to Barrow or Gateshead for a wet Tuesday night encounter in January / February?
Weymouth have been there or thereabouts for what seems an eternity. They spent money they never had, and I remember when Ian Ridley the Guardian journo took over as chairman for a while and he had the likes of Steve Claridge playing for them. See they had a 1400 crowd the other week but down to just over 300 last home game. Pity, because they've always been a traditionally well supported club, and I remember crowds of 5000 - 6000 not too far back when they played Yeovil before they came in the league.

I disagree that any stay of execution is unwarranted. If you live within your means and others dont they deserve to go bust and you survive by playing fairly.

Its quite simple in my logical mind that clubs spending money they dont have have an unfair advantage and if it goes wrong they pay the consequences which saves clubs that do it the right way.

I see Chester have finaly gone. All for want of £26,000 owed to the taxman. That's less than portsmouth players earn in a week.

Come on mr taxman, treat them the same.

In fairness that's probably the best thing that could have happened, Vaughan will be out of the club and they can reform and hopefully play at the Deva (I believe it's council owned).

I also agree with Stodin regarding the Grimsby situation. Altrincham and Forest Green have regularly been criticised in recent years for finishing in the relegation places but not actually being relegated due to other teams going bankrupt. However these are two small clubs living within their means and not overspending in the hope of staying up, they should be applauded for doing so. If other clubs in the same division can't do the same then that's their problem.

What's the story with Farsley? Is it similar to Lewes/Weymouth? Just overspending to reach the Conference and then they couldn't sustain it?

yes thats basically it, they overspent in getting to conference then couldnt sustain it. according to local news thet owe over half a million. there are other interested parties wanting to buy the ground from the administrators but they are only wanting the land for development as its in quite a prime area.
