Looking through some bits and pieces here’s some cuttings that might be of interest . I knew there used to be a football pitch in the middle of Port Sunlight village having played there against them in the late 1960s. Didn’t realise that they even had plans to join The Football League in 1904. It’s a bit blurred , but in this photocopy you can see that the pitch used to be enclosed and the write up states it could hold 15,000 spectators . William Lever, who owned the soap factory, definitely had the finance . I wonder why it never happened? So we nearly had four League teams across The Mersey, the short lived New Brighton Tower FC, New Brighton FC, Tranmere Rovers and Port Sunlight FC! Just wondering if anyone out there has got the programme from this 1903 match?
