Guys,

The photo below shows Johnny leading out the England team at an away game, it has a date on the back of 13th April 1961 so it's dated just before the Scotland game of 15th April. But the photo must have been taken earlier, in 1960 because I can identify 3 of the players behind him:-

Peter Swan
Not sure (can anyone ID please?)
Ron Flowers
Bobby Robson

So Haynes was captain with those 3 players on these 4 occasions only:-

Spain (Bernabeu) 15.5.60
Hungary (Nep) 22.5.60
N Ireland (Windsor Park) 8.10.60
Luxembourg 19.10.60.

We can surely rule out Luxembourg (5500 gate) and Northern Ireland (can't be Windsor Park). So that leaves the Nep or the Bernabeu.

What do you reckon?

Thanks all.

Or could this be pre-development Wembley? Someone has suggested that on Twitter.

If so these 4 players only played twice at home with Haynes as captain

23.10.60 v Spain
23.11.60 v Wales

Both Wednesdays in autumn so not enough daylight surely to be then?

Now I'm told those 2 Wembley games were 2:30 kick offs.

Pretty sure that’s v Wales 1960 at Wembley. Not Spain. England played in plain white socks against Spain but in hooped socks v Wales.

The players entered the field of play at the Nep from the side stand and not from behind the goal like in this picture. Looks like the tunnel end at Wembley with the flags running round the top.

England v Wales at Wembley 1960.

You can see the line of flags and the terracing at the tunnel end at the 1m mark on these highlights.
