Good evening everyone

I have inherited my great grandads football programmes, they were left to my dad but he has no interest in football so gave them to me. Where is the best place to get them valued?

Any help would be welcome

TIA
Stewart

Hi Stewart could you provide some details of what is in your "great grandads" collection as there are different specialists for each club. Cheers

Hi Stewart

Probably useful to give an idea of the years they cover and the clubs involved - one of my great Grandads lived in Manchester from 1885 to 1920 so if I inherited his programmes I would probably be able to use the proceeds to buy a new house Smile

On the other hand if he followed a big London team in the 1960s then I'd probably be lucky to get enough for a new TV Confused

In any event you'll find a buyer for most stuff pre 1970s - Sporting Gold, Graham Budd, Football Wanted, Sporting Memory's (google them and they'll be the first results) are the main auction houses or search for similar items on ebay to get a good idea as well.

Generally I would suggest an auction house as it is in their interest as well to get you the best price

That sounds quite impressive - not what you'd expect but for many collectors these junior/non first team games are more valuable than your regular League/FA Cup programmes

Best approach is to make a list

Season - Date - Home Team - Away Team - Competition - Condition

If there are a lot this can seem daunting but start with a few and put them up on here & you'll get good advice

Possibly an extreme example but this Gilgryst cup issue sold for £850 at auction in 2015

https://grahambuddauctions.co.uk/GB29-lot-1322-A-scarce-Manchester-United-A-v-New-Mills-Gilgryst-Cup-semi-final-match-programme-19th-December-195?arr=0&auction_id=85&box_filter=0&cat_id=&department_id=&exclude_keyword=&export_issue=0&high_estimate=50000&image_filter=0&keyword=Gilgryst&list_type=list_view&lots_per_page=10&low_estimate=0&month=&page_no=1&paper_filter=0&search_priority[0]=&search_type=&sort_by=lot_number&view=lot_detail&year=

Whereas a regular Manchester United issue from the same season could go for £10 or less

Yes agree with that. Put a list on here with some pictures but best bet for an impartial valuation is to contact one or several of the auction houses that colchestersid recommended.

There's been plenty of these on here before Leigh and it's not even April 1st. Maybe he will post some details, we await with interest.
