This lovely picture came in the shop today. The owner knew nothing about it except it was pre-1910 which I would tend to agree with.
The only clues to the team being Liverpool based are the photographers name and address - H Dance of Breck Road, Everton.
can anyone identify the trophies? That might be a starting point - not the best pics but I will try and get it scanned.
Over to you folks!

Cheers Pete - I am fascinated by it and would love to know who the team are. The doors on the picture have signs on saying referee and trainer so it must be a grandstand somewhere. Also the trainer on the left has trophymedals hanging from his waistcoat pockets which was a peculiarly 'Welsh' thing at the time so maybe that throws a spannerin the works! Who knows!

Not good news on this as all the Everton & Liverpool experts I'm in touch with denied it's their clubs and they didn't recognise the trophies.

Sorry about that.

Are you sure it is football Pete? Lots of Rugby Union teams , pre 1905 ,were established on Merseyside, both sides of the Mersey. It could also be a Lancashire rugby team? .l remember having a poster for Southport Rugby Union Club, pre first world war.lf it is football, there was a team named Africa Royal, who were based in The Dingle, Liverpool .Apparently they were quite successful locally. They eventually had links with New Brighton F C when they were formed. Then there is Tranmere. They were named Belmont during this period.Could also be a Lancashire football team? I bet nobody volunteered to carry that shield home after the game!

Many thanks for trying Pete - appreciated.
I reckon it is definitely football as the two guys in the light jumpers are probably goalkeepers. I wondered if it was Tranmere or possibly South Liverpool who I am pretty sure played in dark red or purple shirts up until the 1950s or so. The mystery continues...

Hi Mark, sorry, l should have addressed the responce to you. You get used to Pete with his photo queries. I have got a press photo of Woolwich Arsenal v Man City .The date is between 1904 -06. At first, I thought it was an outfield player of Arsenal tackling a City player.l then found out it is infact the Arsenal keeper in the picture. It looks like the goalies wore very similar shirts to the outfield players during this period. You might have a chance with the Tranmere suggestion. Don' t think they won much( trophy wise) during the pre 1905 period ,however. Definately a hard one to work out.
