Not sure about Scotland but Dual registration is certainly allowed in England as long as the two clubs are in different leagues.
Last season we used a player registered with the Southern League to play for us in the Western League. It really is quite common among non-league teams.

Just to complicate matters, the attached thread from another Forum says the player must be "non-contract" to be eligible for dual registration.

I would not have thought that many players in non-league football are "non-contract".

If he can score two hat-tricks in one day then someone should give offer him a contract!

I guess it depends how far down the non-league ladder you go as to what percentage of players are on a contract.

I can only speak for my local club playing at step 4 (SLDiv1S&W) where all of our squad is non-contract, as is the case with many of the sides we play. Having just won promotion from the Western League - steps 5 and 6 - with many crowds under 50, I would hazard a guess that the number of players on a contract in the 40+ teams could be counted on the fingers of one hand!

Interesting, nothing like this exists in Scotland to the best of my knowledge, you play for the club you’re signed with unless you go out on loan. The only comparison I’m aware of is when a player for a youth team also signs with an adult club and can play for both.

The three registration statuses are Contracted Professional, Non Contracted Professional and Amateur. Clubs down as far as level 7 or 8 (lower tiers of Junior football), will mostly have a mixture of all three on their books.
