Possibly a Danish club called Hoje Gladsaxe IF - Peter Schmeichel began his career with them. They were formed in 1966. |

Anyone know what this is?
Looks like a Man City crest.
"Moss Side Area FA" maybe?

Not terrible, it sounds as feasible as my Moss Side hunch.
Cheers mate. |

It's a lovely badge and looks old, how did you come across mate?, with you been a Newport collector, I wouldn't think it would be something that would interest you much.

The badge is Manchester Schools football association and is awarded to the players chosen to take part in the area teams which are a prelude to the selection of the Manchester Boys team---the players are usually 13 or 14 years old. Five areas play a league table---NORTH,SOUTH, EAST, WEST, and CENTRAL and each player receives a badge for playing one game or more. Former players like Nobby Stiles,Brian Kidd,Neil Young etc. will all have received one. It is amazing where these items appear and this probably comes within that statement. |

As well as Newport badges buddy, I also collect other old pins such as ... associations / competitions / trophies / footy mags / Subbuteo / sports broadcasting / '66 World Cup / old Wembley ... that type of thing. |

As to the rarity, it does raise opinion.
Around 80 of these would be issued each year (not now---that looks like a 1950s/1960s issue) and therefore over a few years that would soon be in the 1000s.
However, how many would be retained by the boys who played in those games? Very few I consider and the majority by far would be lost or thrown away. Even allowing for the high issue, it does have a value but probably a fairly moderate value under the circumstances.
Probably what someone will pay will decide the ultimate value at the end of the day. |

Rocky----thankyou for that link, loads of players who went on to play in league football are contained in those team groups.
I will spend sometime in seeing who I can recognise--but not now, it is too late. |

It always amazes me how things like this end up in the hands of the public and collectors, it's the same with medals and things, if I achieved something like this because in my eyes if I got picked for a boys team by a regional FA then that's a achievement and getting something like this to mark that achievement then I would want to treasure that for ever. Same as medals and that, some have ended up in the hands of the public and collector and not people who achieved them. I know there's reasons why it happens, I just find it a bit sad at times. At Carlisle United, if as a player you win man of the match then you are awarded a watch engraved with the match you won it in on the bottom. After chatting to a lad I worked with for a very short period, he's girlfriend turned out to work in the jewellers that provided the watches. He told me that at the end of the season the player could trade that in for something else they wanted, and most did. I just found that sad because that player achieved that so why can't thay keep it and treasure it, and with some players that have played for Carlisle, it's the only thing they will ever achieve. Maybe its just me that likes to remember my own personal achievements (not that they have been many so far )... Anyways sorry for derailing this subject. |

It eventually sold on ebay for what i would consider a much lower cost than a moderate value, for just £16.
A scarce item that does not appear every day especially one that is perhaps 50+ years old and only available to players. _________________ To see 20,00++ original items relating to Newton Heath & Manchester Utd 1878-2023 then visit www.flickr.com/photos/manchesterunitedman1/sets to see entire uploads.
