I buy The Times every Monday to get a digest of the weekend's sporting events.

What never ceases to amaze me are the facts / statistics that come up every week.

Among those printed this week are:

"Saturday marked the first time since league football began in 1888 that there were no English goal-scorers in the top flight on a day with at least eight games"

"Never before (since 1888) has only one point separated the leading five clubs in the top division after nine games (counting three points for a win throughout)"

"Only twice in the past 12 years have four different players scored against Manchester United in one match (excluding penalties), both on October 23. Man City in 2011 and Chelsea yesterday"

"In a Spanish-dominated weekend, Middlesborough became the first team for eight seasons to have six Spaniards in their starting line up and Managerial dug-out (five players plus Karanka)"

"All three scorers in the match between Burnley v Everton play for Countries different to where they were born"

"Tottenham, facing Bournemouth, were the first Premier League team to receive four first-half bookings since December 2014"

and finally,

"Manchester City fielded a three-K central defence against Southampton Kompany, Kolarov and Kamikaze (John Stones)"

If members are interested in this sort of thing I am happy to print a few each week. Enjoy.

Thanks for posting. It would appear that there are some interesting facts and statistics to be had for us ‘stattos’ and I may invest in buying the Times each Monday going forward.

What never ceases to amaze me though is the amount of times Middlesbrough is spelt incorrectly in the media, (an extra o).

No blame on the media for the Boro spelling; that was down to me. Sad

A couple more interesting facts from last weekend.

Palace and Liverpool produced four headed goals before half-time, the most in one half of a Premier League game since Leicester scored four first half headers against Derby in April 1998. Also the first time that two Liverpool centre backs have scored in the same League game in the Premier League era.

In both of Sunday's Premier League games a Belgian number 10 scored the first goal and set up the second in a 2-0 win.

For the first time in 50 years three away teams scored four goals on the same day in the top flight. On the previous occasion 1st October 1966 four teams score four.

Enjoy.
