Don't know anything about badges, so no idea what they're worth, but they do seem to be THE thing for the money men to buy at the minute.

Very nice badge, and no it wasn't a Russian who won it, but not saying who did either.

It's the same two bidders fighting it out that made it so expensive. If they just ut their highest price on auctionsniper, would have been a lot less messy than 23 bids and the final price.

Ho hum - sellers market though if you are lucky enough to have something they want!

The one I listed (worth circa £80) last week for £500 had no takers, but someone else with the same badge has since stuck their on for £250 and hooked a bidder!

I think I must have been born without a badge gene. I can't see myself buying or selling any supporters badge for a sniff of that amount.

Badges take up a lot less space than programmes. Less people collect them so vast majority of the hobby is still affordable.

Much easier to 'make your own rules' as to what you collect, whereas most programme collectors make it really hard for themselves by needing whole seasons, or all of their teams issues for a certain period.

Sometimes there's the nice suprise of finding something you never knew existed, whereas with programmes it is usually fairly obvious what has been produced.

You'll never get a complete set of programmes - whilst some programme collectors have incredible collections, I doubt if any collector has every single programme for every single fixture their team has played. And the gaps in the collection could cost thousands. With badges, it is possible to eventually get every single one for a club if you are keen enough.

With programmes, there is the '2 teams involved' issue. You might support Exeter City and only need one programme to complete a season, but oh, no, it was against Chelsea, so even though there are only a handful of people who collect pre-war Exeter and every other one that season was £40, this one will be £100+ !

Not saying one collection is better than the other - I collect both! (and cig cards, and yearbooks, and tickets, and, and!

Just each collection has its advantages and its drawbacks!
