Why is it that Texaco Cup programmes are so expensive?

Are they particularly rare?

How much is it for an average Texaco Cup programme for your club?

Thanks in advance.

I didn't know they were, and for once I'm with Dangerman, about £1-£1.50.

The only one i am aware of that fetches big £s is the Derry City v Wolves 70/71 , that was selling of upwards of £300+ a couple of years ago , but now is around the £100 mark.

The Dunfermline v. Tottenham one tends to go for a little more than most of the others, but not that much. Tenner max if memory serves...

This one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3006.....500wt_1287 is a hard one to get for Burnley fans, probably because it was played at 2.15pm on a weekday, organised at very short notice!

Is it the Burnley programme you were thinking of when you posted this thread?

I seen a few around that were valued at £10 plus and considering most 70's programmes struggle to a get 99p I jump to a conclusion.

I used to have all the Texaco Cup Finals (amongst others) and some of them were quite difficult to obtain and thus reflected in the price.

The Texaco Cup, like many of the minor cup competitions, attracted little interest and therefore small attendances = small print runs for programmes.

However, the games were competitive matches, usually involving the 1st team, making them collectable. A lot of collectors get around to adding these programmes to supplement "main" collections at some stage.

My advice would be, if you collect 1st team programmes add the minor cup competitions as and when you come across them because over time they will become harder to find.

The 70s were amazing. No complaints about too many games in those days. The Texaco cup, Watney Cup, Anglo/Italian, Anglo/ Scottish. fa cup 3rd place off to name a few..... Newcastle United were expelled from the 1976–77 Anglo/Scottish for playing a weakened team in the first leg of their quarter-final against Ayr United. Unbelievable.
