How important is condition for you?

I've picked up a few programmes over the years with team changes/scores on it for less than half the price of mint copies. Its more important to me to have a record of the game so I don't mind once everything is readable

Anyone else willing to accept less than "mint"?

With my historian head on I'm more than happy to accept older programmes with team changes and scorers neatly marked, especially if it makes the price cheaper.

Definitely. For me as long as the condition isn't appalling I accept that programmes, especially pre 1960, may not be in excellent condition. So team changes, scores, rusty staples and slight folds are not a problem for me.

Not a problem for me either. As long as all the text is all there I don't really care if the scores ect are written in.

Same here, as long as it's not in poor condiiton, I don't mind neat team changes or a slight crease on pre-1970 stuff, it add's to it's historical interest for me.

I agree. Writing is not a problem for me with older (pre 1950) programmes but I prefer wherever possible to buy without writing (team changes).
Having said that team changes in a programme in a 1930s programme can actually not be a bad thing if they are neat. They give the programme an authentic "been there on the day" feel that I like. The term 'mint' should really not be used with older programmes at all. it implies that it is as good as new, i.e the moment it came off the press (or in the case of a coin - from the mint). This is (in my view) pretty much impossible with an older programme.

One thing i hate is writing on covers , however neat. This puts me off a programme not matter how rare. The only thing i buy, is if the team page is on the cover and it has teams changes. Not a lot you can do about that.

I seem to be in the minority at the moment ,but i am afraid all my collection has to be without writing ie Half/Time Scores Team/Changes etc,i have somthing like 700 progs in my collection and not one has writing,it has cost me more i suppose to"up-grade" on several but that is my personal preferance,i just think thay look neat & tidy without writing.

I am a strict mint collector, but then my collection is only made up of programmes since I have been attending (1985), I do have 5/6 that are not mint, but I will upgrade if I ever find them!

Paulo, if you only collect newer issues then you are absolutely right to only go for the best quality, as they are more available.
In fact I should add to my earlier post that with 50s programmes I tend to avoid writing (and other flaws) - the law of averages is that a better one will come along soon enough. But when you come to wartime and pre-war programmes they are harder to find in top condition - so we have to put up with it for the most part.

I would never buy a programme that isnt in very good condtion no matter what the programme is. In not to fussed whether the programme has a fold or anything like that.
