Has anyone ever wondered this? I was just wondering what people's opinions are of the club's with the most collectors, 'pound for pound'?

Obviously, the bigger the club the more collectors one would imagine. For example, there are more Man United collectors than, say, Dulwich Hamlet. But in terms of the size of the club, there are probably a bigger percentage of Dulwich collectors as a proportion of its fan base than Man United.

I ask this as I seem to come across a lot more Everton collectors than most other teams, however I don't know whether I'm being biased or the fact that it stands out to me just because I'm an Evertonian!

What's your opinion?

I have, I may be corrected on this but in Scotland I think it's Rangers & Hearts going by the sales i've had, There is also demand for Hibs stuff.

I agree with Hibs. I find a lot of Dundee FC items sell well too.

Aye,I forgot about Dundee. Bidding on older Rangers and Hearts items is often a nightmare. I have a big Rangers collection but it is puny compared to loads of collectors I know, some on here as well, Jachaz, KPSwannie, Texas Ranger has some impressive European items, and others as well.

I'm not quite sure how you can gauge that. I think what you probably mean is, what we would call serious collectors. For example , if a rare item turns up for sale then you find yourself bidding against the same two or three people. That doesn't quite reflect how many collectors a club might have. There could be hundreds of Everton collectors who just collect the games they attend . Some may go on to be serious collectors , most will probably not.

If you're talking about serious collectors I think Rangers will take some beating.

I would count myself as a serious collector but not at the stage of spending big money.....yet. I would not entertain the idea of buying with a view to selling if it wasn't for the fact that I want to build up enough dough to buy more expensive items. There will come a time,God willing that I will be up there bidding with the giants.

How do you make that out Highland. Gary Cowan and John Ure spring to mind. Of course you will know others because Hearts are your collecting speciality.
I know a few serious Hibs collectors who would give anybody a run for their money.
Example - Hearts v Dons league cup semi 46/7 at Easter Road. If I was ever going to sell my programme I have been offered whatever it takes from a Hibs collector who I have had many dealings with. Four figures, no problem, ( assuming of course that an original doesn't spring up on ebay )
A couple of months ago, Clyde v Hibs 47/8 went for approx £450 on ebay to a Hibee and I know for a fact that someone else would have topped that but couldn't bid due to circumstances.
Rangers, Dunfermline, Albion Rovers, Falkirk, Killie and Dundee Utd to name a few all have serious collectors who would spend big if the required programmes came on the market.
Therefore Highland, in conclusion I think your sweeping statement is bollocks

I noticed this one. I was surprised as early Baggie programmes are normally ten a penny Wink

Dundee are actually fairly well supported and are probably the bigger of the two clubs in the city.

They averaged just short of 5,000 in the Championship last season (better than 5 Premiership sides) and had 10,700 at their last game against Dumbarton.

They were the best supported side in the Championship by a considerable margin

As an Aberdeen collector, I can say that there are quite a few of us, some of whom are on here too. Prices for Dons' programmes from the 50's for example, seem higher than the majority of other Scottish clubs, if one goes by dealers' catalogues and ebay.
I know of several "big" collectors, with collections far bigger than mine, with some incredibly rare and valuable programmes, such as Rejkavik away from 1967 which I have seen go for £2K! That is way out of my league, but one can dream ....
And if anyone has Dons v Clyde from 19/12/64, it is the only home programme I need from my date of birth 50 years and four days ago!! Wink

Plymouth have always had an annoyingly active collector base...

It is interesting...for example could the somewhat out of the ordinary price shown by Bazza baggies indicate that Notts County have a very aggressive collecting fraternity...guess it depends on where it went.

I know at Sportinggold a Plymouth home went for £360 v Everton whereas a similar home v stockport went for substantially less the previous auction ( and to me ..hooray!)

A 1970's Chelsea reserve away on ebay went for £208 and yet I know it went to a Plymouth collector!

Undoubtedly the Chelsea element pushed it up...there have been some amazing prices paid for these reserves of late. Luckily I don't mind how slowly I get to these...
