Hello everyone
Has anyone on here had any problems with giving ebay your national insurance number?
I've got to the point that they won't allow me to put anything on the site. Don't want to give them anything if I don't need to

Once you have made 30 sales or passed £1740 in total then eBay is required by HMRC to collect your NI number and send your details to HMRC

This is now a legal requirement under HMRC DSR legislation

I'm not a tax advisor but my understanding is that if you are just selling your own personal possessions there is no tax liability. After getting a self assessment letter based on my eBay activity I wrote to HMRC to confirm all my sales are items from my personal programme collection (I sell about £12,000 a year). They confirmed I would not need to self assess and had no tax liability

If you are buying and selling for profit then yes you'd probably need to pay tax on that
