So we dont win anything because we dont have a winter break and play too many games.
Ive got a idea lets put the champions league back to a straight knockout no you play in this league and qualify for that league and if you fail you go into the europa league.
I dont want a winter break winter football is what its all about games over christmas and new year.
What do you guys think?

Definitely not in favour of a winter break, my god , Id have missed out on a couple of Boxing Day away trips to Wigan over the last few years and another trip there this coming New Years Day !!

But seriously, for them to come out say we got beat cos we're tired .... what a load of bollocks, the stats showed some of the Germans played just as many games so that theory is blown away straight off.

Fact of the matter is we were crap and didnt have the passion or the bottle for it, end of. Players are too pampered as it is without giving them an extended holiday in the middle of the season.

I agree.
If they are playing too many games then the league could be made smaller.......
but then the owners/chairmen would moan about lack of income.

You could reduce the number of games in europe for champions league to champions only.............(shock !! Horror!!!)

Perhaps the England team (now in its lowest position in the world rankings) & all the leagues should be run by one organisation, The FA or the premiership.

Or we have just face the facts..........we're crap.

Guessing Spain must have been tired too...

Agree with everyone, we are and were "not very good" and the tiredness is an excuse, I think I heard that all but one of Spains starting line up in the Semi-Final played for either Barcelona or Real Madrid?

How many games do they play a season compared to the 'Big' 4 in the Premiership?? Very similar amount i assume!!

did we not finish the Premier league season earlier than normal in preperation for the World Cup.... Rules out tiredness.

For £100k a week I am sure they can be tired!!!

It's claimed the Premier League is the best in world, this maybe but how many English players shine in this league... not many, perhaps we need to reduce the amount of foriegners in the PL.

Rant over

Can't disagree with you boys, I don't even like the international breaks.
I suspect the big clubs would like it, so they can go on money making trips to Dubai & the like, play a couple of friendlies and therefore basically defeat the whole principle of a break.

Secondly, the weather. Many games which were postponed last season, was caused by not the pitch being unplayable, but problems outside the grounds, frozen pavements etc etc and trouble actually getting to the grounds. What happens if there's a winter break (3/4 weeks?) shortly followed by a severe cold spell (3/4 weeks? again). It would be fixture armageddon.

As for the tiredness theory, well, if they hadn't done all the extra training in Austria & South Africa that may have helped. Why they needed to train day after day I don't know, it's no wonder they were tired or injured.

Sunday dinnertime (obviously not a couple of hours before they played Germany, although this is debatable), Fabio should have sent them to the pub, Beef, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, the lot, washed down with a few pints. The England camp appeared to be aloof and dull compared to the more laid back approach of say the Dutch & Germans.

I am not in favour of a winter break, I love going to matchs in the winter, but I do agree that the Champions League should be a knockout competiton again.

I agree that the champions league should be a straight knockout tournament for champions alone not those that finish 2nd or 3rd .

A winter break no thanks, theres nothing like travelling down to Yeovil in February on a cold monday evening and standing on an open terrace with the freezing wind howling.
When would a winter break start, last season we had a game postponed at Cardiff a week before Christmas and we have also had games postponed in March.

As for the Champions League heres an idea rename it the European Cup Very Happy and stick the teams that finish second third or fourth in the UEFA Cup and have a separate competition for F A Cup winners and call it the ECWC Clap

In Scotland, most of our youth football is changing over to a summer season, which is a great idea. Playing more football in the better weather can only be a good thing, especially for kids.

Personally I'm in favour of a winter break, the SPL used to have one and I think it should be introduced (Scotland is the most northerly football nation that doesn't have one). Undersoil heating ruins pitches up here, especially when it's constantly on during the cold weather. Also, in this age of all seated stadia, there's nothing worse than sitting down in sub zero temperatures.

Predicting bad weather is not an exact science, but we have plenty enough records to be able to ascertain what is likely to be the worst 6/8 weeks of the year. I'd rather watch football with the sun on my back than a cold northerly in my face.

Professional Rugby League changed from winter to summer in 1995/96 and it was probably the best decision they ever made.

You have a summer in Scotland, when did this happen?????? Wink

In terms of winter break for the premiership it will be loved by the players (Sorry i meant to say self indulgent tarts) and a real devastating blow for the fans (The true footballing heroes nowadays), i also think if the FA bring in a winter break and the self indulgent tarts start saying how much they love it then i fear the biggest sell out of them all would resurface which is this 39th game or having games played overseas??
