Old programme

Hi All I have a programme, England U23 v Scotland U23, played at Roker Park, the date on the front is 19th February 1969. I can find no record anywhere of the game being played on this date.

I have checked England online, U23 site listing all the games, Googled lists of U23 games at Roker Park. I can see the game 4th March 1970 at Roker that was abandoned because of snow.

Just wondered if you knew of a postponement, cancellation or indeed have a similar programme?

It got postponed.

Following year got abandoned at Engand 3-1 Scotland on 62mins.

At that point, all thought of returning to Sunderland in winter for a 3rd year was presumably too much for everyone involved... 1971 was at Hampden.

Both programmes have same cover design - 1969 in blue, 1970 in purple.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I guess it was all down to the weather conditions

I knew about the abandoned game in 70, but can't find anything about the 69 game being postponed in any news items, which started to get to me, as if I was imagining things!

I'll have to see if the Blue copy '69 is worth anything! lol

It was reported postponed in the Glasgow Herald on Tuesday - which likely means it was called-off Monday i.e. 48hrs ahead (but too late for printer!).

Northern Ireland U23 v Wales U23 was also reported postponed.

Snow hit many league and cup-ties, but not WBA v Dunfermline (in CWC).

Thanks again, searched for a couple of weeks, but never come across the news in the Glasgow Herald. Your explanation seems spot on to be honest, a Monday postponement, hence the print run went ahead. There may be a few or loads of programmes about then, again, never come across one on any site.
