I saw an old 1970s England badge on eBay which I quite liked, it looked quite scarce and wasn't one I was used to seeing.
So as it ended tonight I thought I'd see if I could sniper him for a song, planning to bid five or maybe six quid.

One of those where if you get it, great, if you don't, no matter it was only a speculative punt anyway.

Upshot is I didn't get him, a couple of other bidders came in as well and it went in a late flurry of nine bids for £14-42p.

So I popped onto the eBay badge section instead for an idle browse, and there's the same badge listed BIN for £6.99 on the very first page!
Never seen it before and then two appear in the same day.
Needless to say I snapped up the BIN for half the price of the auction from a minute earlier.

That was bizarre enough, but there was also an original Bulldog Bobby badge I fancied, which I didn't bid on as it had already exceeded the £11 limit I'd set myself - that went for £21-55, plus post.

Yet for two or three months now, there's been an identical badge on eBay listed as a £19-99 BIN going unsold every week!

There's nowt so strange as folk.

On a final note, it amuses me when you get outbid as an auction ends, and eBay send you a message saying ... "Still Interested? ... Don't worry we have some other options for you" ... and then proceed to show you about twelve items that bear no relevance to, or are nothing like the item you were interested in.

Very Happy

Couldn't agree more Wiggy.
I have often shouted at the computer "I've just missed out on a 1940's Spurs programme, why do I want a Thunderbirds annual?"

On the other hand for no reason whatsoever they have just doubled my selling limits, two months after the last increase...

And yet I trade no differently to how I traded for the years they wouldn't adjust them....

Having said that and desite all the issues I have with eBay and they a re legion and well documented by others on here I have yet to find a platform that can beat it...

eBid has never ever even delivered me a single bid...catawiki is painful and slow to use....so I didn't....

The CEO of Shop Direct thinks bot aided shopping is the way forward....hmmm we will see

I know, the first couple of times I read their 'consolation' message after missing out on something and thought ... "Ooh tidy, they have another" ... only to scroll down and see pics of various items I wouldn't buy at a jumble sale!!

Very Happy

The daft buggers.

I suspect that there are many eBayers who never look at the BIN items and so only spot items that are being auctioned. I use several searches in eBay but when I do a general search on Arsenal I almost always filter it for auction only. It cuts down the number of items by 4-5 fold at least (and still leaves thousands) and generally I figure that the rarer items I need will most likely be auctioned or put up at a ridiculous price in BIN so I am not that bothered. So it doesn't surprise me that items are overlooked in the BIN section. I am sure I have missed items but then its a hobby and where there is one.....

Of course the other possibility is shill bidding (not that I am suggesting it happened for those badges) but there are severall well recognised shill bidders out there and it can push prices up beyond normal/average prices.

I noticed selling badges, I have had badges listed for £2, yet people were bidding £6-7 for the same item, I've always thought why people spending that much when I've got the same item cheaper.

Another pet hate with ebay (I've got a few), that people watch BIN items, months ago I was selling a FA Cup badge and 4 people were watching it for weeks then the badge sold. Then to my amazement, I got two, yes two messages about 2 to 3 minutes later asking if I had a similar item for sale. My advice is, if you see it and you fancy it and it's BIN, buy it!!!.

Anyways that's what bugs me about ebay Laughing

LOLZ!!!!!

And then some.

I missed out on a nice footy badge this morning, and one of the pics they suggested to me as a consolation was a new garden shed!

Very Happy
