Went to the Palace friendly there this summer, and there was mega fan in a denim jacket covered in Colchester patches and pins, and he had tons of these in massive long chains!

They look brilliant and can be used by any club that has loops on the bottom of a main badge and is blue and white colours eg Millwall

AFC Wimbledon also do these in their colours and have most of the last decade of years available on their website

The guy that you saw is Phil Gladwin, he was featured in FourFourTwo magazine some years ago when they had an article on the Essex derby between Colchester and Southend. He has been dressed like that for the last fourty years! He is very passionate about Colchester and he hates losing, although like the rest of us, he should be used to it.
The years bars must be rare at other clubs, we get orders from all over the UK and just today had one from someone in France.
Despite the recent thread about jiffy bags started by Adrian (botanybaykid), they work very well for badges.

Very few clubs indeed still do them, very pleased that CU keep up an old tradition

Shame really as if you and AFC Wimbledon can do them, then anyone can

I think its a bigger thing in Speedway badge collecting, although whether they still do them now I don't know

Edit, just had a snoop on ebay and there is the odd place still doing them, so is still possible in different colours

Only got one Palace badge with loops on the bottom and it has a vintage 1930's year bar on it, and don't want to mess with that as its original.

There hasn't been a Palace badge with the loops probably since pre war I think

We've produced "Supporters' Club" badges in every decade since the early 1920s, and have loads of examples out there, ranging from the usual 'commonly found' to 'hens teeth rare.'

We've never done the hoops with year bars though, sadly.
I've often admired them featuring other clubs, and noticed how relatively easy it is to pick up the correct coloured bars from other clubs.

(amber / yellow, white or black in our case)

I did mention them to Duncan many moons ago, about the feasibility of perhaps doing one and issuing new bars each season, but he felt they just wouldn't sell the bars in this day & age.
