Preston N.E. (39/40); Oldham Athletic (39/40); Stockport County (39/40).
Are they dated; Preston 6.1.40 (1-2). Oldham 10.2.40 (0-0)?
If so, these two are from the North Western League, from 1939/40.
Or
Football League War Cup; Southport v Oldham Prelim Round 13.4.1940?
Stockport Co. were in the Western Division and didn't play Southport. They didn't play each other in the 3 games before war broke out in the FL Div.3(N) either.
Nor did they meet in any other Cup matches.
However, is the Southport v Stockport Co programme dated 23.9.1939? If so, it's an early season friendly. Ended 0-0.
Hope this helps re the 1939/40 issues.
No idea of their value. I'd say they're more than likely to be quite rare. _________________ Not Forgotten; Allwright, Greechan, Hagan, Kennedy, Littler, Purver, Robotham, Saunders, Shields |

Preston game was a wartime Friendly. Sportingold sold one for 130 quid hammer at their April 2011 auction. |

My relative, Dunc Colquhoun, was one of the Southport forwards for 1938-39. On Oct 29th they were away to Oldham Athletic, and I'm still trying to research what the Hull game could be. The original away Hull match was fixtured for Dec 10th, but Southport played in the FA Cup that week, and so the match was moved to Apr 17th 1939. The home tie vs Hull was Apr 15th, and had always been fixtured that way. The Oldham match on 29th Oct had also always been fixtured that way. The Reserves match on Oct 29th was at home to Lancaster City. Very odd. |

The match would almost definitely have been a Friendly, hardly any football league North East or North West War League fixtures took place after the truncated war season ended in early September 1939, almost none in October 1939, instead most clubs played a series of Friendly matches until the second week in November 1939, I know this was the case for Halifax at least. |

But this was October 1938, apparently, not 1939. |

How many pages does the Hull programme have, and is there an editorial on page 4, entitled 'Black & White?' Does that give any clues as to what the match might be? The normal home Southport programmes for 1938-39 had 12 pages, with the editorial beginning on page 4, and a summary of results and fixtures for the First Team and Reserves on page 11. |
