A true legend

Success everywhere he went

A trailblazer

Thank you for everything you achieved in the game, and the way you achieved it.

RIP Johan Cruyff - a star for ever more.

I remember watching those World Cup games in the 70s when he scored some magnificent goals.

RIP Johan

Had the privilege to see him play at Tottenham towards the end of his playing days in a European tie and although it was Glenn Hoddle's night, Johan's skill was still obvious.
He deserved to win the 1974 World Cup. Star Player of the best team in the tournament.
Legend...Thank you....RIP

RIP to a football legend.

How many players get recognition with a piece of skill named after them?!

Remember 1974 too.

Joining the ranks of football greats who have left us.

The greatest European player ever in my opinion.

Like Pete said, a unique trailblazer in every sense of the word.
His innovative ideals helped make Ajax and Barca what they are today.

An absolute legend of the game with no or very few equals.

RIP lad.

As a nipper i was lucky enough to be at England v Holland in 1977.

Holland were mesmeric that night and Johan ran the show.

It was football as rarely seen here at the time, and i still feel so lucky to have been at Wembley that night.

I often wonder if they might have won WC 78 if he had played.

Not only a great player but a great thinker about how the game should be played with flair and adventure.
RIP

In yesterday's Independent, the penultimate of their printed issues, they included a full and fitting obituary to the great man. It can be found here online:-

In addition, and this sums this great newspaper up, they chose to cover their back page yesterday with this wonderful photo of Cruyff in that iconic Ajax kit. Today is the last printed issue and I shall treasure it.
