Can anyone advise please.....purchased an item on eBay from a regular "dealer" who always sends the item recorded signed for delivery......item never arrived so an eBay message was sent by myself asking for an update....I quickly ascertain from the seller that the item was delivered and signed for.....needless to say the signature provided is not mine or anyone else in my household......it certainly never arrived and the postman didn't leave any cards etc.....what happens next? Is it the sellers responsibility to report the matter and refund or does it now get messy? Any advice please from forum members who have experience of this type of event, either as a buyer or seller. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried a neighbour ? Might have been left with them. Check a shed or somewhere a postman might have left it. If you find it, get down to the local Delivery office and read the riot act.

Wullie I owe you a pint......guess what's been hidden under my front door mat for the last four days......the postman obviously put it there, signed for it on my behalf but never put a card through the door to let me know where it was!!! Panic over.....and Thanks again for the advice! Laughing

The postman is a complete idiot. All he had to do is leave a card to say where he left it. You could take it further and get the idiot into trouble. He probably thought he was doing you a favour, but really he was just to lazy to fill in a simple card. No excuse, these people give us all a bad name. Glad you found it.

If a postman is caught signing for an item he could be sacked. So not to leave a note, well that's just crazy. Because any good will from the customer is lost. They complain , it's missing when it's probably just hidden , it has been signed for, not by the customer. It get's so messy. I have to work with these idiots every day , it's ok for you lot.... Crying or Very sad

My old postie often put my larger hard backed envelopes behind the door mat if they don't go through the letterbox instead of leaving card and taking them back to depot. He stood the door mat up next to the door and put the envelopes behind it. He also often put signed for items through the letterbox without a signature if we were not in. The guy considered he was being helpful by not taking items back and thus giving me an extra trip to the depot. In many ways he was and to be fair nothing ever went missing. Technically he was doing wrong but in reality a great help.

If an item is not received I thought the buyer could formalise the matter with E Bay by reporting the non receipt, and more than likely get a refund, although the seller would then probably block you from further bids on other items!

A postman is only being helpful if he tells you where he has left the item. If he doesn't leave a card then he is not being helpful he is being lazy . I would get the telephone number of the local delivery office and give the manager hell. Forget customer services. Total waste of time. Ring the local manager.

Sent a recorded few weeks ago, a week later the buyer asked where the item was as they normally get to him a couple of days after sending so checked the website and found it was delivered the day after I sent it. Only problem was it was signed by a name the buyer didn't recognise and was delivered by a office 15 miles from where the buyer lived and not his local sorting office.

Phoned the Royal Mail who told me where it had been delivered which was nowhere near where it was supposed to be going and they would start an investigation. 5 days later no return call as promised so called them and they have not spoken to the postie so have no idea why he delivered it to an incorrect address but its okay as all I need to do is put a claim in and they will refund my costs blah blah.

Thats all well and good but simple thing for a postie to check is the postcode at least either when he sorted it or the name when he delivered it (it was correctly addressed and had the correct postcode printed on the receipt from the PO).

Bazza in my case if I hadn,t found the item and it had been fraudulently obtained by someone.........would you as a dealer refund my money and follow up with the royal mail as a complainant or would it have been my responsibility? In this case the dealer was telling me it was my responsibility...... They had carried out their part of the sale! Would like to know where I stand should anything like this happens again.

When i phoned Ebay they said A recorded delivery had been signed for and delivered, end of story.. So it was the buyer who had to proceed with the claim and not me.
Unfortunately I jumped the gun, but with me being a caring, generous, sensitive, loving person i refunded him..

I'm awaiting the delivery of an item at the moment.....its been 12 days since I paid for it.

When I first paid for it, the seller messaged me and said that he would post it within a couple of days. After waiting 9 days and still no arrival, I messaged him (Sunday just gone) and he said he had been to London and had forgot and would post it before he went back to London on Tuesday (today).

Still no item today (Tuesday), so I will wait till Thursday or Friday and then open a case against him.

I paid £22 for it, so not exactly cheap, I just feel that it wont arrive.

Will of course let everybody know the outcome.
