I have started doing some research into wartime fixtures and according to the Blackpool Complete Record by Breedon, Blackpool played a North West Regional league fixture at Burnley on Christmas Day 1939. However the Datasport Book of Wartime Football shows that Burnley played a friendly at home to Barnsley on that day.

Now I don’t doubt that both games probably took place, in fact Blackpool also had a home friendly against Preston on the same day, but where both these games played at Turf Moor at different times or was one played elsewhere?

Do any of the Burnley collectors on here have full fixture details from that season including friendlies and Regional League matches?

I would also be interested if anyone has or knows about any North West Regional League programmes for fixtures played at Bloomfield Road during this season.

Burnley at home to Man City on 16th dec 39
Burnley v Barnsley 25th and were away at Barnsley on the 26th.

All frendly games.

From my research.

And according to my Datasport of Football `1939 to 1946.
Blackpool beat Preston 3-2 on Christmas Day 1939 and Preston fielded 2 teams that day away at Blackpool + Accrington

Yes, the Datasport book specifically mentions that Preston played 2 games on Christmas Day but doesn't mention that Blackpool did also.

It is therefore possible that the Breedon book is wrong (wouldn't be the first time) but I am hopeful a Burnley expert will have a full list of fixtures for that season.

That's brilliant stuff goonerak. Thumbs Up Many thanks.

That confirms yet another mistake in the Breedon book.

Did you just happen to have a copy of the Times lying around.

I've got online access through my local library. I think most libraries have access. Worth checking.
