Morning Chaps

I've been pondering insuring my collection for a while now and have decided it's a must.

Do you insure yours?

How does it work in terms of valuation and cover?

Also, are there any recommended companies to explore?

Thanks in Advance

Mine's is insured through the house contents insurance. As long as no individual item is valued at over £1500 then it's all covered (always best to check with your insurers if they will do likewise)

I keep a seperate file detailing the collection (and values) in a safe place so if the worst does happen I have evidence of what was in the collection.

Also handy to take pics of the more valuable items and save on the same file.

You can buy a decent fire proof safe for the price of a pre war programme. A good place to put all you really expensive stuff, especially if you're away from home for some time.

I have used this company in the past.

http://www.mjacollections.co.uk/

You value the collection and say what it covers i.e. programmes, pictures, autographs etc.

They have a fixed premium depending on insured amount.

Let it lapse a few years ago by mistake and then didn't bother after that.

Did you go with this lot kcs?

I'm looking to take out separate insurance for my collection as I'm no longer confident my household insurance adequately covers it.

Have dropped them an email anyway,

Have my more expensive items specifically covered as part of the contents insurance on the house. Cost isn't too bad ... Just quote valuation and they tell you premium.

Hi Tynie, I didn't in the end because we moved house and changed house insurance. The same sister-in-law advised that the collection is on the above insurance. There was a limit on the collection value and individual item values.

I can find out if needs be?

Thaks kcs, I have contacted them and they sent me some info, premium appears to be around £10 a month which is pretty reasonable.

Before I do anything I'll contact my home contents provider again and ask for written confirmation of coverage before deciding further.
