What about programmes signed on the front by players of the game? I have a 1977 European cup final programme signed by Jimmy Case, Tommy Smith ,Joey Jones and Ian Callaghan. As they played in the match would this lessen the value or increase it?

As they played in the game i'd say this would add value. I have to laugh when i see programmes for sale signed by celebs who were at the game. A recent one was an Harold Wilson signed FA Cup final programme. I doubt that these would add value.Having said that i once got Jack Lemmon to sign a Arsenal Programme. lol

Of course it depends on who wnats to buy the programme, Wulfrunian. There's no lgic, science, or anything else that determines whether or not signatures add or detract from the value of the programme.
As I said in my original post, they are now ubiquitous as the whole process has been determined to make somebody a profit, the player signing and the vendor. I believe it's wholly different to older programmes that were signed for non profit making purposes.
There are collectors who will not touch anything that's signed, because they believe anything that "defaces" the programme detracts from it's value. There are others who collect nothing but, including my old Celtic friend from Aalborg who advertises on here.
If people are looking for some guidance as to whether or not autographs add value or not, I would suggest it's down to whether or not they're contemporary - ie pre Muncih United signatures which are hugely collectable - or today's mass signings for profit which I believe have no significant value because they are ubiquitous, ie anybody can get them if they want them. I would reiterate though, there's nothing definitive on the issue, it's all down to personal taste.
On a personal note, I archive a lot of material, including early Trade Union memorabilia, and have always steered clear of anything that isn't contemporary.

The thing that doesn't help with my programme is Joey Jones signed it twice the divvy. But then again i'll never willingly sell my collection so it doesn't matter.

Id say that was slightly below average for it, but around the mark for ebay.
As I said I have heard dealers (at the wolves fair) speak about it at the £250 - £300 mark but that was a couple of years back.
It is one of the rarer Wolves programmes as far as I know.

Anything pre war at molineux is supposed to be pretty rare. Also away UEFA cup games from the 70s.
Coming more up to date, the 1st season we were in the 4th division, halfway through the season there was a change in programme suppliers, and so there are one or two there that had very low print runs. Bolton and Bournmouth seem to spring to mind, but I will check that out.
Having said that, The Derry one you have is one of the rarest, and as it was Derrys last game as a Northern Irish club, many first/last collectors also chase it.
Theres a cupgame at newcastle from the 70s thats hard to come by, I'll check the date on that one and get back to you.
Im not really an expert, as I have said elswhere, I have only really been a collector for a couple of years. Before that I just bought the programmes from the games I went to.

I don't mind as long as the teams aren't on the front cover as some are. In fact I would say I actually prefer it when they are changed - it makes me somehow feel that I was at the match, with that personal touch.
