I popped down as well and had a fantastic time just looking at some of the programmes which are well out of my price range... I am more of an obscure non-league hunter....and Isthmian League/local London leagues from 50s/60s/70s.

I got some good bargains today to keep me amused for the bank holiday. The £1 bundles of recent league fixtures are brilliant value and something to read and give me ideas for things to write about.

On my blog I am currently running 'the twelve programmes of June' which some of you maybe interested in??? There is also some 'classic programmes' on there too.. (I use the term classic loosely!!)

One more thing - It was hot queing on the stairs Shocked Shocked Laughing

I left home at 5.30 am for an hours walk to Bolton station to make the Manchester train.Devotion lol

I didn't expect to buy anything apart from the end of season finals and that was how it turned out but I enjoyed going to the event for the first time and seeing a much different array of programmes to the Altrincham Fair.I was hoping to pick up early/mid 50s Bolton v Chelsea or Tottenham from the London specialists but I saw none against Chelsea and a very optimistically priced 51/52 Bolton v Tottenham at £250....the last two I noticed on ebay sold for £29 and just over £50.

There were a lot more reserves than i'd seen at any Fair before I think the biggest box was on Bazza's.It was good to put a face to DG Taylor who is probably the dealer i've bought the best old programmes from, I was expecting a tall, wiry man for some reason which was a bit off! 5k for a late 60s Man Utd home? Wow. £9 for the 60/61 Man Utd v Exeter LC programme seemed a bargain on DGS's stall.

I didn't notice the pre war Gillingham programmes despite doing 2 or 3 circuits and there were still ten Chelsea v Bayern Munich CL final progs in the WH SMith at Euston.

Went for the day out but apart from picking up another Chelsea Millwall 1945 final prog didn't buy much due to the silly prices most dealers want.

Ambitious at half the price.

I went to the fair yesterday. It was very busy in first couple of hours but then from 1 o clock onwards thinned out. The absolute best bit of the day was that I picked up my last remaining want from arsenal's 47/48 championship season (Preston away).

It was really good to see a larger number of smaller dealers who often add a bit of variety. There appeared to be a lot more reserves this year but sadly a lot less tickets.

I popped by David Simon's stall and although he was advertising half price on most items, from an arsenal perspective a lot of his items were overpriced at the original price so not such great bargains but other clubs collectors may have had better deals.

I noticed the famous Gillingham progs on Ian's backboards but when I went by his stall around half one they all still seemed to be there but I have no idea on price.

I was a bit surprised that Sportingold actually had very few programmes on there stall especially as they had such a large pitch.

Overall I would say say it was a good fair . The comment about prices from another post is true but then is the old gripe of dealer's prices vs other sources . But I picked up a 4 good items at a price I was happy and had a good chat with a few folks.

The fair was well run and the collectors had nothing to groan about as there were plenty of bargains to be had by all.
As a dealer I had a very busy day there must have been over 1,000 who came through the door.
Business was very good but after a 4.30 start it was very tiring day for an old fart like me. A big thank you to the lady with large breasts who lent over my stall from 2.30 to 3 oclock who got my blood pumping again I arrived home around 8.30 after been kept prisoner by the jubilee celebrations at the hotel.
Trade, money wise is not as it was, I remember the time when i had £50 notes bulging out of my pockets. The recesssion has finally hit London as a thick Brummie Ive always been suffering from hard times. Laughing

Thanks to The Banter and especially to The Dingles who will never forget the 5-1 thrashing we gave them at the custard bowl.

Enjoyed the fair immensely and managed to bag quite a few decent programmes free of charge. I have found that if I take my well endowed top heavy buxom wife with me and get her to lean over the stalls I can make off with a few programmes whilst the proprietor is hypnotised!!

Cheers Bazza Laughing

A really enjoyable day, very busy, very tired after a 4.30 am start, sold a few programmes to happy customers and bought one or 2 for my collection at sendible prices. Met plenty of regular faces.

Thanks to Dave Allen for organising this event, loking forward to next years fair already.

Only down point for me was i ordered some PM programme binders in February to collect yesterday, they havent been made.

Does anyone know any other source for very similar binders?
